Ok I pulled off the valve only a small amount of refrigerant came out. Put the new one on. Seems like I keep chasing the adjustment all over the place. Just to clarify.... is it counter clockwise to raise the pressure cut off and clock wise to lower it? Seems like the pressure is correct (25 psi) when the car is warmed up. But if I run it for a while it jumps to 45psi. My gauge may be garbage..... its just one of those gauges from and empty can of do it your self refrigerant. I also have one of those tire gauge looking things...... but it says hi press on the side..... not sure how to use it.

Turn left to lower the kick in pressure, in order to make up for the 10% of ineffeciency of using 134 over r-12 you have to lower the kick in pressure. The condenser of a r-12 system is 10% smaller than a factory installed r134 condenser. That is the low pressure kick in pressure for the compressor to come on.

You will need a regular set of gauges but you can try using a thermometer in the vent and see what temp its at when the compressor kicks on.

I don't believe so but it won't give you adequate cooling either- just lower it to about 35 psi.
