Lately I have been finding small pieces of foam on my passenger mat that appear to be for some type of seal. I also notice that my AC does not stay as cold as it used to and seems to draw in outside air when on max. Going back and forth with the AC control seems to be related to the foam pieces appearing not long after. Is the foam some kind of vent seal that is deteriorating? Where should I focus my attention?

Open the glovebox door all the way, metal clip on the left side. Check the flapper door and the operation of the heat /cool blend doo

Look at your heater core inlet and outlet under hood. There is foam that keeps air out of the AC box, it is possible it degraded, fell down into the box and either is keeping the vacuum doors from closing as well as the foam is no longer there keeping hot air from the engine bay entering the ac box as well.
