What does the 1-2 accumulator do? Also, how does it affect 1-2 shift characteristics?

the 1-2 accum's job is to

Act like a shock absorber during the 1-2 shift. Many things attribute to the 1-2 shift feel besides just the 1-2 accum.

the 1/2 accumulator provides a throttle sensitive derived pressure to control the rate of band apply pressure in the circuit.oil pressure ,spring force ,orificing and accumulator valve all provide biases to this equation.

Could the 1-2 accumulator affect part throttle shift timing? Ever since I put a Gil Younger shift kit in the car the 1-2 part throttle shift occurs very early and does not respond to tv cable adjustment. WOT 1-2 is fine, I can hold 1-2 manual, and if I maintain speed below ~15 (in od or drive) the trans will stay in 1st. But if I accel in a normal part throttle mode the car shifts too early. Example, stopped then make a right hand turn, the 1-2 shifts before I am half way through the turn.

hey mike, this sounds like a governor problem. before going crazy, try installing another governor . also check tv limit valve and spring and tv-up valve and spring (some models dont use a spring) good luck, chris
