How do I identify what type of actuator I have ?? Is it a low psi or a high psi ? Is there a spring tension or part number/stamping I can look for ?

Also, what is an average cost to have a turbo rebuilt? Any recommendations in the Houston area ?

Do a search on wastegate acuators and there are some numbers out there, probably in this forum.

I simply use a compressor with a good regulator and large guage and look to see where the arm STARTS to move.

9psi is the stocker and 13-14 psi. is the HD version.

There may be one more out there too superheavy duty.

Up the air very slowly and watch the guage needle and arm, easy test.

O.K. according to Mr. Salvage, mine has a HD actuator. I did the air pressure test and the arm didnot start to move until 14psi. It also held pressure so that tells me the diaphram is good and I'm not getting any funky leak down under boost.

Next question, are all the adjustable actuators out there standard issue unless noted HD

Most are replacements are std. with the bracket to fit aftermarket turbos.

Make sure you get one that will bolt to your specific turbo and has the right spring, and is adjustable, worth a couple of emails or a phone call to get right.

One thing I failed to mention was that I did my test with the actuators off the car on a bench not connected to the downpipe swingarm.

Not sure if the extra drag of the swingarm could skew the test any since the wastegate actuator arm would have to overcome that friction before it moved if done on the car as a test.

Hopefully you did yours on the car but with the swingarm detached. :)

May not matter though but worth testing to see.

Tried it both ways, didn't matter but thanks for the tip. Over on the other site they are saying that the ATR downpipe I have has a 1.5" puck and the hole in the housing is 0.85" and I should port it out to 1" . Thoughts ???? :D

My PTE 51 turbo from Ramchargers came with a 1" hole in it.

If you are sure it's a .85" hole I would port it to 1" for sure, regardless of which actuator is on the car.

Have you measured it with the downpipe off?

If the arm just starts to move at 14 psi. air pressure you have the HD actuator.

Assuming the air is upped slowly say 1 psi. at a time.

The 0.85" diameter is what pacecarta suggested. I personally did not buy the turbo so I don't know how big the hole is. If I could get those friggin' allen head bolts off the down pipe I'd be a happy camper as I am also suspecting the turbo is leaking oil on the turbine side.

Yes, I had a regulated air supply that I could raise very slowly. It just started to move at 14psi.

I think for now I'll just buy a standard adjustable wastegate, they're cheap considering what I've already spent. DAMN THIS IS FUN !!! Really :D
