Advice on good scan tool

I'm going to mount my laptop in the trunk and put a screen in the dash, is there a scan tool out there that has a cool looking display that shows RPM, etc? I have to get a tool to troubleshoot some weird stuff my car is doing and I want to kill two birds with one stone.
