After 20 miles tranny goes nuts!

I was driving my car around tonight and after 20 miles or so the tranny starts to freak out. The car shifts extremely hard in all gears and when you accelerate the car wont down shift and just bogs. also when coming to a stop the car almost dies. The car almost dying makes me think the converter isn't unlocking any ideas?

I just bought the car, i don't know who built it, and i think its been in the car a while. I should be more specific it goes back to normal after you park it and let it sit for a while. Then you drive it about 20 miles or so and the same deal

Man if you just bought it change fluid/filter 1st then see where your at

Ya its on the to do list for this weekend, but i dont think this is fluid related

While you're changing the fluid/filter, pop a new solenoid in there and you'll be good to go.
