And reinstalling it, do I need to take steps to let the oil cycle through the valve body? Anything i need to do? How long should it take? Thanks.

It's always a good idea to cycle your transmission through the forward gears and in and out of reverse a few times on the jackstands and then recheck the fluid level before driving off. Doesn't take long at all.
