AHHH no 2nd gear ??

I have a issue (used car) 87 Gn first gear works great, and if it your rolling in first good it will not shift to 2nd but if you let off it will go up to 3rd gear then shift into 4th fine. Will downshift to 3rd when punched fine, at lower speeds in 3rd if you punch it it goes into nothing ness 2nd is just not home?? no slipping in rev,1st, 3rd or 4th tv cable seems correct. checked and its a BFR tag trans

I assume that not a prodject I want to jump into? I can build a 4 speed but never had a auto trans apart
