My car idles and dies it has kind of a surge then it will die. I have put a new: O2 sensor, EGR valve, plugs, wires and Fuel Pump. when I first start it the car will run for a split second and die. Then I can start it back up and give it a little gas it will studder and then idle ok. when I rev it up, the car will studder like it has a slight miss but when It climbs the RPMS a little it will rev smoothly. it will run and idle after this for a long time. if I try to drive it the car will move aslong as I dont give it gas. when I hit the pedal it will miss like ****ola and die. If I floor it the car will miss then spool up just fine till I go to stop then it will die. I have to take it out of gear and give it gas and break to keep it running when I stop. WTF is wrong with this car.

sputter

ant ses light or mal codes from scan master or diagnostic tool.

How many miles?
How long have you had it?
Did this just start?
What modifcations have been done, if any?

couple months
bone stock
155
when I got the car it only died at stop lights
once I got it home I went to drive it the next day and that is the **** it did. the car has an open downpipe.

Man of few words eh?

Spell it out for us please... as if we have never seen the car or knew anything about it....

You can get help here... but you got to give up the goods.

Scanmaster? DirectScan? Powerlogger? Any sort of scantool?

Sounds like IAC is out of whack... maybe TPS.... or a combination of both....... MAF? Coilpack/module?

Need more info.

MAF sensor will sometimes (in my case)idle out of gear ok,then shudder while in gear, sounding like a machine gun while accelerating. If it's bad,can it and go with LT1 or equivalent.

I havent hooked it up to a scantool. My laptop is retarded and I have the turbolink but My laptop is a POS. A buddy of mine hooked it up to his turbolink and he said the MAF was fine. But he really wouldnt be of any help due to he lives far away. The EGR valve was bad when we worked on it last. Is there anything I can do to IAC like clean it or anything? Im getting so sick of this car. The Tps BTW was working aswell. I remember the hims aying that. I really dont know what to do about this car.

The SES light I think comes on because it throws a code for the exhaust. but Itdoes come on and go off I think ill check here in a little while

You can take the IAC out and spray it with some carb cleaner or brake cleaner, spray the throttle body out to while your at it.

If the SES light is on you can pull the codes by jumping the ALDL with a paper clip, also did you tap on the maf to see if it stumbles or stalls?

IMHO... don't just throw new parts at it..... there is a difference between a mechanic.... and a parts changer.....

Spend the money on a scanmaster....then see where you are at..... unless you can't find someone else closer to put their scantool on it.... or better yet... let you borrow it for a little bit...

It is much easier to come up with the right answer... if you know what question to ask....

 You don't happen to own a parts store do you?? :p

lol no i dont but remember what he said its a bone stock 87 gn how old do you think the parts are...id rather change the 20+ year old sensors then try to trouble shot it oppose to spending 4-5 hours and find out later it was this and that....plus its just for peace of mind;)

If the maf isn't bad before you tap on it it will be after what are you maf numbers from the SM could be any of the things stated above we do need more info and i would not just throw parts at it.

could be the maf you said you replaced the fuel pump what about the fuel filter if its clogged it will cause the same think or if you really wanna be lazy take it to the dealership and pay the half hour for diagnosis and bam there you go ppl do it all the time at the dealership i work at

For the $200 you will spend on a scanmaster or power logger, you will be ahead of the game in the long run, since you should have one of these diagnostic tools if you own one of these cars. The information they provide in troubleshooting problems is immeasurable as well as some of the great people on this board.

It's far better to understand what's going on and replace the part based on information rather than speculation. I've seen people go backwards, making the problem worse than what they started out with because they just shot-gunned all the parts, besides...when you have the specific information that people want to know in trying to help diagnose your problem, the quicker it can be fixed. :)
