I was coming to work today and heard on the radio that Air Force One was approching for the President's visit. Then I saw the landing lights and the plane coming over the Interstate.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! What an awesome sight and symbol of POWER! I didn't think I'd be as excited to see it as I was, but it really was such an amazing sight.

Last time I was in awe like this was after Hurricane Ivan when I saw the enormous reinforcements coming in on I-10. It was miles of National Guard, tree and power trucks, FEMA, and even helicopters in a caravan. I have to admit I got a little teary eyed seeing such a display of support and it really made me proud of the USofA.

It flew overhead at my work on the day of 9-11. He had just left TX and one of my co-workers wondered where he would head to next. I told him he'll probably head to Offutt (AFB outside Omaha) because it's centrally located and has all the communications. About 20 minutes later, I heard what sounded like fighter engines and looked outside and seen the fighters peel off and about 30 seconds later Air Force 1 was flying over REALLY low. My work is about 3 miles from the base and he was coming in on approach. One of the moments in my life that I'll never forget.

Living not to far from Andrews AFB, I've seen Air Force One several times, but it still impresses me. If you google about Air Force One, there are several sites with interesting about this aircraft. Of course, plenty is secret, but still some interesting info.

Funny how an airplane has come to be one of this countries great symbols. Crazy to think he flew that thing straight to Bagdad!

For us normal people that is really neat. I saw Pres. George H. Bush waiving as he drove by in a motorcade on I635 in Dallas in 1988. It's an awsome feeling so be close to that much power.

I was part of that caravan. as a owner operator hauling 2 water pumps & a very large generator. I will tell you I got the same feeling as you did, being part of somthing that large.
when I bought my truck I removed the sleeper, I wanted to stay local, but when the huricanes hit Florida, I was home for a total of 23 1/2 hrs out of 13 days that was on one trip back & forth from NC-FL.

Years ago i had a contract to cut grass on Andrews Airfield.
It was know if AF1 or 2 lands or take off we had to clear the field. We always cleared with the tower before start and finish work.

One day shift leader forgot to tell next shift we were out there. Employee says to me look at the caravan of trucks (7-9) coming. Yep must be something important about to happen. Trucks
stopped about 200 yds away for about five minutes doors flung
open and next thing i know the swat team came at us with machine guns pointed. They wanted to know what we were doing? No fun looking at 40 plus or more machine guns in your face. We had to leave for the day.

Back in the 80's, I was at an Air Show at Offutt and they were rolling out the E-4 (airborne command post version of the 747)

The pilot did several low speed passes over the runway, then did a high speed pass, pulled back hard and did a 70 degree banked turn at the end of the runway. Now THAT was impressive.
