Hello All,
well here goes the problem, my car has been a big headache for a while and these sites have helped me greatly with searches which have fixed a lot of problems. I have a 1983 buick regal t-type with a 1985 gn motor. It is a fresh motor balanced zero deck and ported heads. I do have a big cam in it, gn110t from postons. I have updated fuel set up and regultor. I also have msd 50's and a casper 7 position chip. It has a 9" k&n filter and a bunch of more crap I have done to it. It finaly running good and the turbo seems to be kicking in nice. I give it a quarter pedal of gas and the tire is spinning nicely. I am having a problem with geting it tuned properly, I try to adjust the iac and tps and I have them both in the range that I want them and the idle jumps up and down, vacuum guage jumps from 20 to 13 and the iac jumps from a range of 15 to 225. I have the tps set at.40 and I have checked for leaks and I find nothing except for a possible leak between the turbo and the intake, maybe the upper o-ring is letting air by or sucking it in. I don't know if that is the problem or should I be looking for something else. I have had this turbo off and on the car probably 10 times and getting a little sick of it. I guess I am asking does anyone know if this could be the problem, I know it is not a vacuum hose because they are all new. If anyone has any insight please let me know. Thanks Frank

Welcome aboard our forum!

Yep, that sure could be a possible culprit. You can also check the sticky in this forum above to double check your vacuum connection locations.

if you think you got some leaks. getcha some Carb cleaner from the store.

start the car up and spray the cleaner near the turbo to intake adapter.
also spray some cleaner around your egr valve and the pipe that goes from the egr valve to the intake...

see if the car revs up.
if it does you have a leak where you sprayed at.

when setting your IAC
make sure your car is warmed up (160 degrees)
put the car in gear, with your foot on the brake and check your IAC values.
thats how you get the most accurate IAC setting
i think a safe value would be between 20 and 50.

remember when you adjust the IAC, the TPS values will change.
so you have to check them back and forth. to get them set properly.

hope this gives ya some ideas

Hi,
Thanks for the replys well fixed that leak and now I got a exhaust the three stud copper gasket. Is there a better gasket that is made for that up-pipe to the turbo. I had it running and it still stumbles bad which I am pretty sure that leak is causing it. I tried re-doing the nuts a little at a time and it started leaking from the other side. I don't know if I should start another thread or not but I also broke my wastegate solenoid and can't seem to find anywhere to buy one. I even checked postons and all the local stores which usually can have something shipped in. I broke it on the right side so I definately need a new one. Thanks for the welcome and these sites have helped me tremedously!!!!

Any unmetered air that is getting in the engine will definitly cause an idle problem. The mass air flow sensor adjusts for the air coming through it and any that is getting in from leaks wont be compensated for by the ecm. see ya Mike

Hi All and Thanks,
fixed the leak and the copper works fine would have helped if I had the metal flange installed in between the two. I have been building this motor from scratch and had a 406 in the car, so I have nothing to look at luckily I didn't shoot that flange out, I thought it was just extra junk that I got with the motor. It may take a while but it will run right............Thanks Frank
