What timing is everyone running with their alky. Also state their alky mixture and their results. Don't forget the # of boost with no retard/knock. I would like to see a poll what everyone out there is doing.

thanx

Come on, don't keep your settings a secret!!! I am sure someone else out there would like to know what everyone else is running. I know each car is different, but if we can see and analyse what everyone is doing and their results than we can help ourselves with our Alky tuning.

Personally I am running straight denatured with some wd40. With the ME16 pos chip, currently at 18* timing @ 24-26# of boost and no retard on 93 pump gas. My times are not that great right now, but I was running way overrich and my new EGT meter will help me tune to the exhaust gas temps. Also, I will be trying water/denatured mixture so as to lean out the alky injection and cool off the cylinders more so that I can turn up the boost. I will first try with a 80/20 mixture of alky/water with no top oil.

Looks like I'm not alone. Some of us get tired of posting the same answers to the same questions every week!! Try the archives. I know they work well on this board.

I want to help as much as I can but no one will take the time to gather info that currently exists. I have a build sheet on my Ltd. which is located at my web site. Its a 11.40 pump gas minor modified car with 114K and an unopened motor.

One of my MaxEfforts runs 20-22-24 on the first seven positions and 26 on the last 8.

My other one runs 19-20-21 on the first seven and 24 on the lst 8.

Steve,

are you running methanol, straight denatured or are mixing with some water?

Steve is that 60% denatured?

Also, where you allowed to increase your boost more and where your times better?

Im running the red108 chip, which i believe is 26 degrees in first and second, and 24 degrees of timing in third. Had it up to 25 psi on a spike and then backed off to a steady 23 psi, with 3 degrees of "transition" knock, no knock after the first or second frame on the scanmaster. I run str8 denatured with wd40 for lube for the pump.

Blackshoebox -> What is your pump speed and turn on point. Also, what are your 02s and EGT, if you have them. What is the max boost you were able to run without knock? I would imagine that the straight denatured might cause some richness and if H20 were added you would be able to lean out and be able to increase your boost? I am doing research on the mixture of H20 and alky and am finding that the alky is more of a fuel than cylinder coolent. Don't get me wrong it will still cool the chambers and adds anti-detonation characteristics to run more boost. But the alky will act like a 7th injector and in some cases can cause one to run overrich and slow the car down.

I have been told that when Buick was testing the power injection that they came to the conclusion that 60/40 alky/water was the best and optimal mixture.

Also, me thinks that the reason they never used the power injection was because the GNs would really be able to kick the vettes ass off the showroom floors. Not that they weren't already doing it, but it would have allowed them to be even more potent from the factory.

"What is your pump speed and turn on point. Also, what are your 02s and EGT, if you have them. What is the max boost you were able to run without knock?"

Pump speed is set at 8 and the turn on is around 11-12 psi. I have run up to a solid 23 psi at the top of third with zero knock. O2's were roughly 780-800, which aftering dynoing the car this weekend i learned is about as lean as i want to go(air to fuel at those o2's on the dyno was perfect @ 12.5 to 1)

As for the car running a little rich with str8 denatured, im more then happy to be a little rich, rather be safe then sorry, without real octane in the car. I'm curious to here the results of your research though, so keep us updated.

I fill the bottle up about 60% with denatured and then finish filling with distilled water.

I have run as much as 24# on both cars but normally try to hold it around 22-23 so I won't be on the edge.

I have 75# injectors in one car and 50's in another. Straight alky makes me dial down on the fuel quite a bit so adding water makes for better cooling and less added richness which I don't need.

Steve -> What turbo do you currently have? And what were your times so far? I am asking to see your combination results with 22-23# of boost. Is that with the ME that is set at 24* in third?

Thanx

One car has a TE44 on it...it runs 20 degs to 4000 rpm, 22 degs to 4800 and 24 degs above that. If I run it at 26degs on the race gas settings, I have to drop the boost a little. This car is pretty much a stock block with ported heads. Shifts at 5200

The other car has a TE45 (63E) and it runs 19-20-21 at the same rpm points....However, I sometimes just run in on the last 8 settings which is 24 degs all the way. It does have some transition knock at times on the straight 24. This car has a roller cam, ported heads, front mount, 75# injectors and the normal stuff. Shifts at 5800-6000

The timing pattern works similarly to a naturally aspirated car...timing increases with rpm. Helps to keep the cylinder pressures in line at low rpm when the load hits it.

It's been forever since I have been to the track. The first car ran high 11s last time out on C116. The second is much faster but I have not had it to the track in this configuration. I think it was last out two engines ago....LOL. The posi is now gone on it.

Wicked has 18 @ 4000 20 @ 4400 and 22@ 4800 on up.

I would suggest to run more than one nozzle to insure better atomization, but many people use 1 with good results.
