Guys,
I just completed the install of Razor's PAC. Great kit easy install. Filled the tank with meth, checked everything for leaks and set out on the maiden voyage, still with boost only set at 18 psi (orignal setting pre-alky kit). When the boost would reach roughly 7-9 psi the car would stall, not killing the car, just a complete loss of engine power. Brought the car home checked all hoses including intercooler hoses and vaccuum lines, not apparent issues. I have a turbotweak chip right now for the 60 lbs injectors. Do i need to pull some fuel from the chip? I did not have the chip reformatted for the alky. Do i need to send the chip in for the alky? I currently use a turbolink for data, unfortantely i did not have record the runs. This happened twice. Any input or thoughts would be greats. Thank you in advance.

Rick,
I am currently at work, but if memory serves correct it was set to 6. It felt like it was getting flooded. My fuel pressure is set to 43 with the line off, drops to about 39-40 with the line on.

FYI- Your tech session at darien earlier this year was great.

Dave,

Are you running a translator and aftermarket maf? Try moving the PAC power wire to a different port in the fuse panel.

Glad you enjoyed my spiel. ;)

RL

Map wire is spliced/soldered about 4" from the new 3 bar map sensor included in the kit.

Stock style maf. Translator and LS/LT style will be in the future but probably not until after the midwest buick challenge.

Rick, Would you suggest a different IGN port, or do you have any other particular port in mind?

Dave

There have been cases where the pac pump would inter fear with the maf signal but that's usually with a translator. You can check for this on your turboliknk. Watch the maf # when alky comes on. In this case relocating the power or running a hotwire would solve the problem.

Otherwise it may just be to rich and need to be dialed back a little.

I will mess around with it and hopefully get it figured out. I am like a kid at christmas, once it was installed i just wanted to go, neglecting to read the tuning write ups on the board.

39 lbs line on.. sounds like fuel pressure is a few lbs too high.

Also stock MAF should have a BW sticker on the bottom. Reman MAF.. who knows..

Razor,
It is a reman maf, 3rd one. i really think it is time for a translator. Forgive me if this completely incorrect but wouldn't lowering the fuel pressure increase the fuel volume?

Almost all fuel delivery/drivability/tuning issues always point to the MAF on these cars. Funny how I can zero in on an issue :D

Nothing new.. these cars only like OEM MAF's not remans or the other option translator/LT1/LS1 maf.

Lower fuel pressure reduces fuel. Does not increase it. Yes the ECM compensates with additional fuel through its BLM table. But when it goes into power enrichment lower fuel pressure = less fuel being put into the motor.

Problem is very simple. Lets say a typical stock MAF reads 160 grams at 7 PSI boost. Meaning the computer calculates enough fuel to cover the air(160 grams) at 7 PSI. Meaning lets say 35% duty cycle on the fuel injector at 7 PSI boost. Now the reman MAF puts out 190 grams at 7 PSI boost. The computer instead of putting out 35% duty cycle now puts 45% duty cycle.. making it way richer.. Now you throw on top of that rich condition alcohol= popping and sputtering from way too much fuel=flooding.

Fix.. bandaid is drop fuel pressure. Fix is correct the MAF issue and ditch the reman not curved properly.

Hope this helps.

Julio

Thank Julio,
I am going to print this thread to convince the wife that more money is required for the Buick budget. I have been on the fence of getting the translator and upgrading to a newer style MAF. This helps confirm my choice.

You need to run an Alky chip, Eric pulls fuel when the Alky starts to enter the Engine at those levels. Think about it, the chips usually run the car pretty fat so you build torque and create turbine housing heat at low boost levels, now throw Alky on top of that, SUPER fat = Slow.

Personally, you need more Diagnostic tools when you start messing around here, in cockpit Fuel Pressure Gauge, some Wideband either the LM-1 so you can move it around from car to car or the AEM (WAY better than the LC-1, WAY better).

I'm running Alky Control with E85 and a TT Chip with a TON of Meth, smoking the tires.
