Its just crazy what a difference julios alky kit has done for my car,i remember seeing knock with pump gas at around 16 psi and with race fuel around 22-24...not to mention running around for fuel and fouling 02 sensors......its nice to pump in gas and drive around and at anytime being able to boost to 30 psi and see no knock, not that i bring it that hi all the time, but my car has seen it MANY times and still runs great...

Anyway, the other day me and the wife took the car out for some lunch at a place that you would rather go without the kids(very exspensive)and it was a little ride on I75,just cruising with the windows up and the ac on,when a newer vette flew on to the interstate and rocketed past me,i boosted up to him, staying next to him and slowing him down for a race,he took off and with the ac on i boosted 26psi and kept it floored for quite some time as he got the jump,i caught him and passed him and left him within seconds..the whole time i saw no knock what so ever.........thats when you realize how good you got it with alky over race fuel....i remember when i first heard of it,i thought it may be a waste of money and wouldnt work like ive heard, but i tell you if i was told $2,000 for this kit, knowing what i know,i would pay it...to me it should have been a factory item,i would never own another tr without a kit, even a stocker.....

with that being said, thanks to all the people that help make these cars better, and thanks to julio for going that extra mile on every car he works on,and for always trying to better things, some people do realize what you do for the turbo community...you da man;)

Naaa.. They should have made it a V8 with a larger turbo!!

ks:cool:

I just orderded my kit friday, been on race gas 2 years and 5 o2 sensors. I cant wait to install it. And about Julio(Razor), your right, he is the man. When I called and ordered my kit we talked for about 20 minutes like we wwere old friends. He gave me all the info i needed and answered all of questions as best he could. Its great to have someone who loves these cars doing what he is doing. Some vendors are there to make a buck and thats it, but u can tell hes excited about what he does. Very rare nowadays. He defines what customer service is all about!

You guys are too much. Amazing 20 years latter and we're still enjoying the junk :D like never before.. simply amazing..

I second that! (and the rest of it too  )

I think there is a provision for the application on our cars already, a friend of mine showed me the dash has a light dedicated to meth or alcohol injection. I believe it was on the right side and its like the 2nd or 3rd idiot light down. I plan on wiring up my dash and using that light to tell me when the kit has come on if possible. U might be able to see what Im talking about if the sunlight hits it just right. Im sure the idea was scraped because Buick new we would be running crazy boost levels on stock blocks causing massive warranty claims during the early years.

Yup.. it says "Power Injection".

A bulb already comes with the kit for that purpose ;)

I think Buick believed they couldnt trust the customer to fill the tank.. then kaboom.

I read GM said that could not provide the injection option due to warranty reasons, so yes kaboom.

A friend of mine was the dyno room engineer at Buick. He said they bought methanol in 50 gal drums and did a lot of work with it. He now owns Hardcore racing in Brighton MI.

Old's did it in '62-3 so your late to party Julio:D
Turbo Jetfire
In 1962 and 1963 Oldsmobile built a turbocharged version of the 215. The small-diameter turbocharger was manufactured by Garrett AiResearch and produced a maximum of 5 lb (0.34 bar) boost at 2200 rpm. The engine had 10.25:1 compression and a single-barrel carburetor. It was rated at 215 hp (160 kW) @ 4600 rpm and 300 ft·lbf (406 N·m) @ 3200 rpm. The high compression ratio created a serious problem with spark knock on hard throttle applications, which led Olds to use a novel water-injection system that sprayed small amounts of distilled water and methyl alcohol (dubbed "Turbo-Rocket Fluid") into the combustion chambers to cool the intake charge. If the fluid reservoir was empty, the engine's timing would be retarded to avoid engine damage. Unfortunately, many customers did not keep the reservoir filled, or had mechanical problems with the turbocharger plumbing.

The turbocharger was offered only in a special Jetfire model, which was the first turbocharged passenger car offered for public sale. Only 9,607 were sold in two model years, and many were converted by dealers to conventional four-barrel carbureted form.

I think GM has an example of that motor in its performance engine display. Wonder how many are left that work. Would be a neat car to cruise in.

anybody know how the 'power injection' system was originally going to be set up in our cars? Container location, etc.? Just wondering.

JetFire

Can you imagine going into the parts department at the local dealer and asking for "Turbo-Rocket Fluid"!?

Here is a car as unique in styling as it is in performance-JETFIRE by Oldsmobile! Hardtop flair ... and a sleek aluminum spear accentuate JETFIRE'S low, racy silhouette. But the big news is under the hood: A fluid-injected, turbocharged aluminum engine-Oldsmobile's 215-h.p. Turbo-Rocket V-8! It develops one horsepower for every cubic inch of displacement! Aluminized muffler ... dual outlet exhausts ... high-torque 3.36-to-1 axle ratio ... sporty front compartment console are all included as standard equipment. Foam-padded bucket seats-also standard-are available in your choice of five stylish solid colors including all-black and all-white. Stick-operated 1963 Hydra-Matic Drive, or floor-mounted 4-speed fully-synchronized manual transmission for the sports car buff ... both are optional at extra cost. Make no mistake, JETFIRE is the ultimate in motoring excitement ... an exclusive from Oldsmobile!

POWER WHEN YOU NEED IT ... ECONOMY WHEN YOU WANT IT!

The heart of JETFIRE's high-compression Turbo-Rocket Engine is the turbocharger with fluid injection! Waste exhaust gases actually put power back into the engine by turning turbine blades (A) at speeds up to 90,000 rpm! The turbine drives the compressor (B) forcing additional air-fuel mixture into the cylinders. During turbo charging, Turbo- Rocket Fluid (C) is injected into the gas mixture to permit ultra-high compression for greatest efficiency. This turbo-charging action increases power by almost 40%.

I "thought" that I read somewhere that they were going to use the window washer fluid container, AND that they were going to use window washer fluid.

But what stopped it was it didn't pass the government approval. EPA or I don't know...???

I thought I read it somewhere...I could have been hallucinating...

They were going to put water injection in. But do you really think that people would bother? Not many.
