Ive been messing off and on with alky/water injection since '99. Off and on because it never quite worked out like I expected, or should have.
Now I know the reason. YOU CAN NOT HOOK UP THE NOZZLE TO THE MANIFOLD AFTER THE THROTTLE BODY WITHOUT USING A SOLENOID BECAUSE IT WILL SUCK THE WATER DIRECTLY. Some of you may have already known this? I did not. Plus I cant believe noone has ever told me during all this time. Especially after all the times I complained about siphoning issues. Obviously very few people actually know. This is because of the fact that we [hotair] are definately the minority. '86/'87 guys dont have to worry about siphoning as much because they inject before the TB. After the TB the vaccum is obviously too great. You need a alky/water solenoid inline to cut off the supply until needed.
I have believed for a long time that a "hotair" car should have alky/water injection. I immediately felt that it was going to be my edge (without an intercooler) when I first started reading about it years ago. Now, after I get the solenoid hooked up, perhaps I can obtain the performance I was trying to get back then.
P.S. Guys, I think we should put this info, about the need of a solenoid with alky/water injection on a hotair car, in the sticky. This info is specific to our cars.
Oh yeah, I orderd my solenoid from Carroll's Supercharging. It was $75. NOS sells one, but its somewhere around $120.
