Hey guys. I happen to catch an episode of All girls Garage. ( What can I tell you ,I have a thing for the brunette). Anyway they were cleaning out one of our intercoolers from a Turbo Trans Am . They used Lacquer thinner. Has anybody used Lacquer thinner to clean out the inside of our intercoolers?

Lacquer thinner works great but like pacecarta said gasoline is cheaper. Both will work. After I clean the intercooler with lacquer thinner I dry it out with a leaf blower.

Thanks for the advice . I think I'm going to run with the Lacquer . I'm going to be cleaning it out with my son. (Quick father and son project) He's eleven and I guess it would be best to use something less explosive than Gasoline . Wife would be pissed if I burned the boy. :) Never a good thing.:cold:

Make sure you don't get any on the outside of the intercooler. It will take the paint off.

Maybe more important. Don't get any on your son!

Like most solvents, stuff is absorbed through the skin.

But back in the old days, that's what made men out of boys. According to today's known health risks..........I should have been dead years ago.

You know I didn't even think about not getting it on the outside. Where would I be without you guys. I guess I'm getting old.

Maybe I'll have him vacuum the interior. Start him off small. Work his way up to intercooler cleaning .

The cool ting about using gas to clean the intercooler is you don't care if all the gas is out before you put it back on.

Just start the car and the vacuum will take care of the rest.

after two rinses with gasoline i flush it out with a garden hose . water wont hurt anything and no chance of a pop
