I got a 68 chevy truck the other day and Im dying to make it a sleeper. I dont want to put a buick motor in it (dont throw rocks at me). Instead I been looking into building a 454 for it since I have one sitting around here somewhere. Well I picked up a issue of car craft yesterday and hey did a budget setup for about 3,500 if I remember correctly and it was in the 700 to 900 range on power, but they used all brand new parts and turbo (I dont remember a exact number).

They did this on a cast crank, stock rods, and pistons. Yea, that is what I said and if tuned properly it would hold it for along time. Now the had a set of heads, cam, intake, and so fourth already there making it a bit over 500 hp already.

Im just seeing if there was any other good budget setups out there to talk about or not.

cam and intake. Im sure there is a set of heads floating around somewhere now.

I got a 70mm I want to run and my head and cam setup will prob put it around 520 flywheel power....

I still say you should stick with the inline that's in it. I'd love to see a 292 with side drafts or a blow through system. Think of the torque you would develop with it.

I will not have more then 850 in parts with me having the turbo and carb already! This build is on!

Goals for hp are 750+ and tq is 700+ and this is possible. what is even cooler that is that this is only 8 psi. Stock crank and rods with arp head studs!
