Well, the alt. squeels like a stick pig. Time to fix it. Anyone know a source for both the front and rear bearing?

Thanks,

Rich

Talked to Mike, can't help with parts. They'll rebuild it, however, just looking for the bearings.

Over here:

Alternator Rebuild

They discuss the proceedure and list the following:

On the 86/87 Front bearing is also a 6203 and the rear is a 6000. ALWAYS replace these. It's cheap insurance.

So if I go to NAPA, will they know what the heck I'm talking about:confused:

Thanks,

Rich

I went to NAPA locally and they first said they didn't have them, then one guy looked them up and told me $16 for the front.

I said no thanks.

Didn't make it to the bearing place in New Haven or Waterbury yet.

Hopefully they aren't over $8 there.

Already had the rears.

OK, so here's the story. I go over to NAPA and ask for the 6000 and the 6203. It appears that they have two types, one type is coverd in gold  Must be because it's $18.95 and it's other half is $9.95. However they do have the standard bearings. Here's what to ask for:

P6000-2RSJ PGB
P6203-2RSJ PGB

$3.29 each!

Alt repaired for under $7.00!

Once you know the numbers you can go to any local industrial supply house like Motion Industries (they are all over), or you can order them from McMaster-Carr, etc. The -2rs part tells what kind of shields or seals (two seals), the 6000 is the size, and I'm not sure what the j and pgb are all about :-). $3.29 each sounds ok for cheapest to midling imported bearings in single quantity, maybe $5-8 for good ones.

I agree with David65, Quick Start has great service and decent prices but have a minimum order requirement.
