should i replace my stock alt. with the mods i have done to my car? i have stock ported heads with bigger valves,42# injectors,champion intake,lt1 maf and translator,scanmaster, te-60 turbo,3inch down pipe,alky control,hot wire kit and some other things done. ive hear you can use a lt1 alt.is that true and is it bigger

The 1996 impala ss alt. is the application it is rated at 140 amps. You will need to get a different terminal lug for the wire that runs from the back of the alt. to the battery and also may need to use a different serp. drive belt as the pulley may be a different size.
 
I swapped my pulley from the stock 120a unit on to the 140a unit. I also had to reclock the alt case to match the stock so that the regulator plug is accessible. Real easy upgrade and works great. I did not have to change the belt.
