hello people: I know you've seen that newer style alternator pully fan that suppose to give your alt. better cooling.
Do you think it works?

i haven't seen any newer style alternator cooling fans since they put the flat plate on the front of the alternator fans when GM came out with the 12SI alternator in the mid 80's.

hello ladies and gents: The pc.I'm talking about Kirban has for sale.It looks like it replaces the original pc. and is stated it's on mid 90's vehicles. It might be what your talking about? It's round with holes in it.

hello people: Anyone gave it it shot. I guess the idea of keeping it cool would make it last longer or it could be for better balance?

Is your alternator over-heating? If not why spend even $.02 worrying about it? I've never had an alternator issue (other than brushes and a few regulaotrs) over the last 20+ years of building these cars. But then again in 9 seconds or less the alternator couldn't possibly over heat......or could it??

Seriously, I have never had an alternator over-heat issue, but then where I live it rarely goes over 95* outside. If it's over 95* around here, I'm sitting in a lake and not driving a Buick.;) (oh yeah and complaining like Rosie O'Donnell with a melting ice-cream cone)

hello peepi: My alt. has been making bearing noises for too long and it's time to rebuild or get a new one. Kirban sent me an e-mail showing the alt. fan and alts. they have for sale and I wanted to see if anyone had any experiance with it.

Hi

I'm with turbofabricator on this one.I've never had an alternator overheat either. It's just a way of marketing, trying to convince you that you need it.
And I disagree with the description below where it says it looks 100% better.I think it looks like arse.
This new alternator pulley fan is from a 1993 or newer GM car, which because of its unique design, provides better cooling to the original alternator.
Not only does it provide better cooling to the alternator, but it looks 100% better. Its smooth front design is also easier to keep clean.

To answer everyones comments:

GM came out with the later fan design to improve cooling of the alternator years ago we used to sell it not because owners had issues with their alternator heating up but for the simple reason it gave the alternator a cleaner look and was easier to keep looking nice over the fan style that is on our cars.

Granted not everyone will want it but for $25 its a nice upgrade from an appearance standpoint. While its true you can find them in junk yards. What you need to realize is you also need a special width spacer otherwise the blades will rub against the alternator housing.

The spacer is not the same as the one used on the newer style alternators.

As for our brand new 120amp alternators they are all custom built locally by one person for us and have a full 2 year warranty. Housings are brand new and are as close to looking original as you can expect to find. We can also made 200 amp ones. Richard Clark has tested it and they do crank out 200 amps! The stock 120 amps are all pre tested as well.

We also have original cores mostly 1987s so we can even build you one with the 1987 part number and possible date code you may want.

We pretty much cover all the bases now for alternators. We also carry the Caspers field fix which we highly recommend which eliminates the issues associated with a bad circuit board or burned out volt lite in the dash which can give the appearance that the alternator is not charging.

Some owners have had bad experiences with various products that jolt the alternator voltage at certain boost levels. This can also leads to problems down the road.

In our research in 1986-1987 our cars were the only GM cars that had a 120 amp alternator.

By the way our source has even built a special 18 volt alternator for a car that has run at Bonneville flats.

The guy is that good.

The alternator Richard tested peaked at 238 amps which we sell stating it will do 200 amps. It is also the very FIRST advertised 200 amp alternator Richard has ever tested that truly put out 200 amps.

I have no idea what over Buick suppliers he has tested but ours was the first to do as claimed.

We have only been selling them for about 2 weeks and just this past week got on our website.

They have a 2 year warranty and are pre-tested.

We have sold a few already but not where you will see any feed back as of yet. I will say this its highly unlikely you will find any rebuilt ones that compare to the ones we sell that look correct and all internals and housing is all brand new.
