is it worth it to buy a 140 amp alternator over a 120? mine needs replacing it still charges but I think the bearing is starting to go it makes some noise. I never had a problem with the stock one. I was just wondering what the advantages are of a 140 amp

The advantage would be higher amp output, if your car is equipped with a lot of power options and you are running extras (Hotwire kits, radio accessories etc) I would go with the 140 for sure.

You won't notice a difference unless you have a stereo. The car will take as many amps as it needs and no more. You want as much voltage as your battery can stand. Voltage and amps are often confused as to what will make the car run better.

This is basically what I was getting at, just worded much better by we4Mateo

I like the alternators that have the higher fixed voltage settings especially at idle and they seem to hold the higher voltage at WOT
