Perfectly normal, the underhood light has a mercury tilt switch built into it.

And I was told if the volt light don't come on when turning forward the key the alternator won't charge

It wont charge it should be on any time the key is on power to alternator but the alternator is not putting out power such as key on right before engine start. Went through this on my el camino. Had to run power into it then run a sense wire first through a diode then through a bulb (charge light) then to the fuse box after that It worked fine.

S10xGN is right about the switch for the hood light. But if you think it might still be your alt you can do this. While the car is running disconnect the pos battery cable. If car dies alt is bad or your belt is slipping real bad. Just be sure not to let the pos cable touch anything incase it keeps running.

Otes.

I disconnected the battery while it was running it shut off its a new alternator the 2 one it do it when the lights are on
