I just picked up 2 alternators from the boneyard off some FWD buicks. They look exactly like my '86 GN one, even got the serp belt pulley. But they had 2 wires going to the control connector instead of the GN's 1 wire. One is a 108 amp, the other a 120 amp. Are these directly replaceable on the GN?

Yes, the 120 amper is a direct replacement. Just have to re-clock it. Just plug it in. 108 amp will also work fine. I think extra amperage alternator (120) was used because of the Powermaster. Just junk that and go VACUUM! :D

Well, I'll keep the PM for now. I have some alternators to clean up. Just couldn't pass them up. Alts were on sale at this u-pull-it this week. $7 each!

Can I rebuild the 108 amp unit into a 120 (or 140) amp unit? What are the differences?
