Does anybody know the weight differences between steel, aluminum and export bumper reinforcements???????

You save about 9 lbs per pair.(according to my trusty kirban book).

Stock Steel Reinforcement is 27lbs, not sure on the aluminum one but 9lb drop sounds right, 18lb aluminum reinforcement.

The Canada brackets are 3lbs each so you drop 21lbs by going to the Canada bumper brackets.

I don't know where everyone else got their numbers and I don't remember the actual weights, but I do know that on my car, the rear aluminum bumper support is 22lbs lighter than the steel one and the front aluminum bumper support is 16lbs lighter than the steel one. Not sure what the "export" supports weigh, but they have to be alot less than the full aluminum supports.

Can't remember who, but someone is compiling a list of component weights for the TR. A search might find it.

front alum reinforcement is 11.8 lbs
the outer shell is 22lbs

for the rear
still have to break down the alum bumper but assembled w/alum support is 38lbs
the 87 rear with steel reinforcement is over 60lbs so the 22lbs lighter is accurate when switching from steel to alum
if you cut the steel reinforcement center out till its to just the end mounting points its 4 lbs lighter than the aluminum but then its not as safe

I just did alum supports on mine when we did fillers...wow...easy 20lbs off the back for sure. The front was also lighter...but not as noticeable as the rear.

Actually export and Canadian are misnomers for the 3 piece reinforcement. They were used on select 84-85 Regals sold in both the US and Canada. Just the two main support pieces are made from stamped steel and weigh about 1 pound more than the aluminum piece. IMO those would be a good second choice as those aluminum ones are hard to find. I dont know how many of those 3 piecers I have passed over in the bone yards but they are out there. Like I said look at the 84 and 85's. The rears have always been one piece steel and aluminums.

Thanks guys for all the info!!!!!!!I just put aluminum support on my car and didnt have a scale to weight but I could tell it was well worth the work.
