It's entertaining to learn about the value of all the old stuff and see the people who have collected it. It's sort of like that Auction Show. But I really question the little pop-up at the end, when it shows what they paid and what they think they'll sell it for. They make assumptions and then list the profit. But I guess it's a lucrative business because they sure do peel off the Benjamins.

No different that the "flip this house" shows. I always laugh when they show potential profit.... Yeah Good luck.

its a ok show but i like pawn stars better.

+1 The guys seem borderline dorky and they also show some questionable "facts" after some items, for example, there was a guy who had a 57 Chevy and they showed a close up of a in line 6 cylinder engine and showed graphics that were really for a v8. It's worth Tivoing and watching.

It's a good show.

I bet if they didn't have a camera crew with them they'd already be buried on someones back 40 though.:biggrin:;)

I've gotten some good deals on specific furniture and glass but I like to stay with small out of the way antique dealers and many auctions myself.

It's my second job. :p

Pawn Stars is getting a bit old already, same jokes every week, although you can learn a bit from the experts they bring in.

I think the show is OK. It's on my list of DVR material to catch. It's kinda interesting some of the people they meet and the stuff they run into. I love it when they go "freestyling" it cracks me up. They have to be doing something right in order to peel off those C notes aas quick as they do, but I agree that what they paid and what they think it's worth are a little off.

I caught a few episodes. I don't care for the tall guy, he's comes off as too "city" to be a picker....."Gee this old rusty spotlamp would look great in someone's studio apartment".

Thet do come across some neat stuff though, like the old jukeboxes or a drugstore soda fountain.

It's amazing what some people have stashed away in their old barns/sheds. Most of the stuff has value but they don't want to part with it.

the worst part is every other dummy who has seen this show now think that there piles of crap are worth serious cash.

this show will ruin the market, as it already has begun too.

The show isnt bad. The only thing that turns me off to the show is how they take advantage of these elderly people who honestly have no idea what they own. I always think of my grandparents and how i would feel if these two asshats came and tryed to rip them off.

Good Show, we have an antique Wooden Piccolo from the late 1800s we would like to sell.

They havent emailed me back hahahaha.

Offering some guy 25 bucks for a chewed up trinket then turning around and doubling their money? What should one do?... I'll travel 200 miles to your house and offer you retail price @ 300 bucks for this headless doll Mr Smith....then IM gonna turn around and sell it for 300 dollars!

I watched last night and they sold a guy them two old fuel pumps which on an old episode, they traveled like 3 days to get there, dug em out of the crude, drove all the way back then delivered these things to New Orleans for a whopping 600 in profit and they were all jazzed up calling it a quick flip...lol

I agree, When I first saw the show, I actually thought they were offering pretty high amounts for stuff, but im no expert. I dont see how you could make much money by the time you pay employees, travel costs, insurance, advertising, warehouse/ retail lease, utilitys and so on. I also think if they didnt pick the stuff it would just end up selling cheap at an estate sale sometime down the road or rotting away in the ground. Of course now that they have their own show they are guaranteed huge success.

The show I don't get is "Income Property".

He will turn a filthy. crumbling basement into a luxury apartment for 9 grand. I watch it and say to myself "you couldnt do that job for $25,000". 9 grand to rip up the floor, redo plumbing, frame it, new windows, new doors, brand new ultra modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances, new bathrooms, dry wall, insulate, paint, flooring, rewiring for 9 grand GET THE HECK OUTTA HERE!

Yeah, I've felt that way too. I know they have to make money I guess, but just don't rip'em off, especially the elderly, they might drive Buicks.

The episode i remember that made me think that way was the one of the man who was one of the first soldiers to arrive after the Atomic bomb was dropped. He had the swords and helmet. I have one of those swords also and they definatly took the guy for a ride buying it from him for 100 bucks.

Those Japanese issue officer swords were mass produced hard to tell from watching the show what the guy had could have been the WWII KATANA - MACHINE MADE BLADE

Japanese WWII Military reference and Price Guide - MilitaryItems.com

I missed that episode so i guess IM not the one who should be trying to argue what you saw...lol
