I'm running a 249ci Stage 2 with a 70HPQBB turbo, FAST XFI, etc. Should make some good power. I havent bought a bost controller yet because I'm really not sure which would be the best route for me. I want to be able to two step the controller so I dont just fry the tires off the car and I'm sure I'll end up getting the traction control set up on the XFI one of these days to help with that as well. The car is primarily a street car running 26" tires so it will pretty much blast the tires off at any given time. I'm only running 8psi right now with a crappy $2 ebay controller becuase I still havent gt the fuel system finished yet. Anyways, I dont want to have to rely on CO2 to get an accurate boost control only becuase it is a street car. But, I'm not real sure how they work or how accurate they are when CO2 isnt being used. Or are there other controllers out there that will do me better that the 500 or 1000? I'm ready to buy the crap I need so I can finally start cranking this beast up!

I have a street car as well and an running the ams1000 with CO2. I have a 10lb bottle and have not had to refill it in over 4 months.

The AMS can be run without CO2, but, like Corey posted it doesn't use much CO2 if you go that route. Especially if you use good lines and the XFI to trigger it.

Well Cal, if I do go that route, are you game to tune this POS to the 900HP level??!!!:D How long would you honestly say the CO2 will last? Where do you buy it and how much is the bottle? I would really like to stay away from it though, I dont want to have to stash more parts under the hood in all reality?

I'm certainly willing to try and get you 900hp :D If you end up getting the AMS, we include directions for wiring it into your XFI and I can go over what controlled pressure is best for you. The CO2 is relatively cheap, once you locate a local source for it. Obviously, the larger the bottle the longer it lasts.

Try a paintball supply store for co2 or any compressed gas company should have it. and I believe it's pretty cheap but haven't bought it in awhile...Joel

I am using a 10 oz. CO2 bottle and have over 50 passes on the original fill. Cost $3.00 to fill the tank at a paintball store. Most tracks should have CO2 also.

i run the ams-500 without co2 and have no problem. the main thing with co2 is that you can run a lighter spring then ramp the boost up as much as ya want to. so traction wise the co2 would let ya leave on a 3 lb spring and then run 30lbs of boost where without co2 youd have like a 14lb spring. thats not an exact calculation but you get the idea lol only gripe with the 500 is that ya have to carry 2 little screw drivers to change the boost levels and ramp levels since its dials instead of buttons

I have never risked making more than 20 passes on our 10 oz bottle. When driving on the street I leave the co^2 bottle off.

My advice would be the AMS 1000. This is based up on using the MSD controller and the old MSBC-1

I was a little afraid of the AMS 1000 but after reading the instructions thoroughly Cal contacted, me and walked me through it all. Considering you have a stage2 engine I would vote for the 1000. It can do so much more than the 500. After a lesson with Cal it is very simple to program. My biggest satisfaction with the AMS is its accuracy. All other controllers I had used would over shoot the boost on the launch and gather back up which is when I was depending on the controller the most.

What is your bottle pressure after 20 passes? Mine is still at 800 psi after the 50+ passes and I plan on a refill when I get down to 500~600 psi.

How about a..

a 20# NOS bottle??? Never know, a leak may just be a bit of a help!!:D:D

OK good info guys and thank you for it!

Let me ask you this: Where are you guys mounting your bottles? I'd like to hide mine the best I can.

I don't know squat about CO2 but I am running a AMS-500 on my car, I have a little on/off toggle switch under the steering column. When its on the "off" position I get 7 psi boost, and when its "on" I get 16 psi.

FYI: If I turn it "off" while boosting air will get caught in the lines and as long as I leave it in the "off" position no matter if I go WOT it won't boost. (0 psi)

AMS 1000 - the only way to go

My bottle pressure is always over 500. Maybe I should look into running a few more passes on a bottle. It cost less than 3 bucks to get mine filled at the motorcycle shop.
