Does Anaerobic sealer/gasket maker set up or cure like RTV ? our does it stay if a sticky/pliable state like AV sealant ? I've used it on my rear main cap mating surfaces and it does not seems to be cureing or setting up . it's been 2 weeks .thanks.

I use Loctite 518. It is red in color, and does not hardern. I use it on the mating surface of the block and rear main cap. Just a paper thin coating. I use rtv and the side tabs in the slots. I like the ones you drive a nail in when finished. (Felpro)

thanks . I've heard of some filling the side cavity with the Anaerobic gasket maker as well . would this work ?:)

I would not replace the side seals with an anaerobic sealant. The instructions are to put a dot on the corner of the block about 1/4 inch on each side of the side seal, and to place some onto the mating face of the rear main cap. Supposedly, this sealant will compress to 0.00015 of an inch. Additionally, this type of sealant cures in absense of air.

I didn/t make it real clear. This the way I have done it with good success.
Put the paper thin film on the mating surfaces. (518 Red) Hold the rear main cap in your hand Starting at the mating surface of the cap, fill the side slot for about 3/8 in. with RTV. Insert the side tabs but be sure you don/t push any of the RTV below the mating surface. Install the cap and torque to desired value. Using a hammer drive the side tabs in as far as possible. I use a wood chisel and cut the amount off that won/t drive on down. This is where I like the side tabs that you drive the nail in. Driving the nail in will only tighten the seal.
