Did anyone pay attention to the announcer Sat? Friends in the stands were shaking their head--hope he wasn't being paid big $ to announce. Anyone know who it was?

The official announcer either never showed or was never identified. I know that on Thursday I saw Jim Rodgers in the tower. Richard also does quite a bit of announcing himself but I cannot confirm if it was either of them on Saturday.

Up until Saturday at BG, I thought Bill Walton was the worse announcer I've ever heard.........

I think it was a combo of the PA system and the announcers but it sounded like the bunch of them had a pile of $hit in their mouths all week and Sat! Horrible! From the time to time I did hear him speaking on Saturday he was talking all this useless garbage. Would have been allot better if they just played some good music and not said $hit!

I couldn't hear any announcements In the pit area, down at the BIG end:(

It wasn't because of where you were. It was because nothing was being said. Seemed like most of the racing action went by Saturday totally unannounced which was weird. At one point I thought there were technical problems because there was a periodic noise that sounded like someone was keying the mic but nothing was said. But, low and behold, eventually the list of sponsors was being read again loud and clear.

You mean the guy who kept talking about a missing wallet?

The guy who called "all bracket racers to the lanes now. This is your last call", and then had us wait almost 2 hours?

The same guy I talked to in the tower and asked nicely if they could please let the bracket racers know what order they were running in, so we could seek some shade, food, bathrooms... and then didn't say anything other than the same lane assigments (which everyone already knew)?

P.S.

If Jim Rodgers was the announcer Saturday, it wasn't all day long. I went into the tower twice that day. Once it was one guy and about 4-5 older women. The second time I went in and there was only one guy in the entire building, and he was doing the announcing. I asked him at that time if he knew where Jim Rodgers was (I had some questions for him) and he said that he didn't know who Jim Rodgers was.

I'm not kidding.

I'm not sure if Richard was the announcer all day Saturday, but the times I was around the starting line it definitely was Richard on the mike. We were pitted at the big end of the track and none of the speakers work down there. There are speakers on the other side of the track where there are no spectators, but they don't work either. I guess that may have been a good thing because I know Richard can go on and on and on and on and not say anything relative to the racing.

Tower

Did they charge admission to get in the tower?
The announcer continued to call 109 blocks 009 and every handicap race he would say the faster car should win. We wondered if he had ever been to a race before or had any experience with Buicks.

All I remember saying to people in the stands is... I wish this guy would just shut the hell up and let the people race. Everyone around me would laugh and agree. It was horrible for sure. They needed someone with a strong voice and some music in the back round! If a car was not running the people in the stands would fall asleep from him mumbling garbage over and over. Hopefully they learn never to use him again!

I have a good idea why don't one of you who choose to critisize step up and announce? As for the gatekeeper comment is there something you want to say to me personally or do you just like talking from behind a keyboard? If my "gatekeeping" was such an issue why didn't you just come on over and lend me your opinion on the matter while you were there? It's not like I was easily missed.

Maybe that was because the guy you asked was actually track staff. They don't know that many of the club staff. I am not kidding either........... BTW - What exactly was it you needed to ask him?

Jim,

When I read the comment you referenced I assumed the person was referring to Jim Rogers not allowing certain people into the Nats (me included).
