I just got trans back in car and was driving around for awhile today- car temp was up to 170 deg. and I noticed car was running rough after while, watched my scanmaster and noticed that decimal point went from solid, back to flashing-- instead of staying in closed loop it was going back to start up position (BLM and INT both went back to 128). Any one have any ideas what is going on?? TIA

Verify the battery connections, sounds like the ecm lost power and reset.
Could be the ignition switch, battery connection, bad ecm connector at the battery, starter cables . . . . . etc.

Thanks Jerryl, I'll check those out...

My service engine soon light would briefly blink at about 50-55 mph also,
may be related

Typically, the positive cable contacting the headers is not an issue on the HA set-up, but, I would look at that as well while you are under the car. :)

Well, replaced Positive battery cable with one from Casper's (nice unit) and fits perfect, seems to help but I still seem to have a problem at 45-55 mph- If i'm just going down the road and let off the gas the serivce engine soon light will blink- it did come on for a bit today but didn't leave a code, Also while driving I had powerlogger on and when the light blinks all the monitored numbers-- rpm, mph, etc. all seem to go to zero. like the power to ECM is interuppted, but I've checked all the connections and all seemed secure. Any thoughts!

Mark- I have a few simple ideas.

1. Check your battery with a hydrometer. In the past two cheap batteries got weak and my car acted very weird.

2. Remove and clean the battery grounds on the battery and all connections on the passenger fender.

3. Check the orange wire for the ECM by the battery for possible internal breaks or kinks. Also check and clean both ECM harness connectors.

Let us know your results. Brad

Hi Brad--Thanks I'll check those out!! I better double check the ground that attachs to the top trans bolt on driver's side and is a real PITA to get to! I know I fought that for at least an hour getting it in place- no room to get your hands in there!!

Agree with Brad.
Check the orange wire for internal breaks.
You caould have a problem in another area as well such as the starter wire connection. Definately loosing power and MOST DEFINATELY a bothersome issue!

:o Well... after I added 4-5 cups of fluid to my battery and rechargerd it, I drove to a car show today and seems better but SES still blinks- guess I'll have to check that ground again behind throttle body and start checking ECM power wire for bare spots, etc. :frown:

Can you log a run and post it to see what is going on?

If this happened after tranny work, then definitely check the group of grounds that were attached to the tranny bellhousing bolt behind the passenger head.

Eric,
The HA's don't have that ground. The ground cables are located in the front of the PS head.
There is however a ground strap from the trans to the firewall.
Someday, when I drop my car off and you work on my HA junk. you'll remember. LOL ;)

That's kind of what I'm curious about, I'll have to double check but I may have got the group "out of order" and maybe the ground strap isn't working as well, although I need to check my other grounds as well. Is there any particular order?

Replaced the battery this morning with the one from my truck ( one year old)-- couldn't seem to get the battery tester above "Fair". The battery from my truck tested with the pointer straight up... so car seems to be happy now- took it for a short drive and SES light didn't blink... so hopefully solved the little issue for now

Can't get the file to upload... so here is a pic- going about 50 mph and let off gas ans SES light will blink (notice how the numbers are all 0!!) What's going on- Ive double checked all grounds and replaced battery cables.

powerlogger 001.jpg

Had a chance to review the file.
This is what I noticed;
All signals (TPS, Bat, MAF, LV, O2, etc) go to zero, EXCEPT MAP.
Now, if the ECM was loosing power, all signals should be at zero, but, since it is not loosing memory, I do not belief the problem to be in the orange wire circuitry (from the battery). Unless of course, it is too short of a period at 0.25 seconds . . . . .

The ECM also gets power from other sources and what I don't know, is if one of the other power sources flakes out, will it do what you are seeing?
Fuel Injection ECM Pinouts

Does the radio/headlights go out/dim when this happens?

Thanks Jerryl, I haven't really paid attention to the radio or headlights go out or dim- been focusing on the other stuff. Did you notice the INT and BLM go to zero as well!?
I have a spare ECM, may change it out and see what happens-- car runs great other wise- just this can be annoying... TIA

PS- Nice to have the powerlogger- although still a newbie to it- alot to learn yet!

Replaced ECM and took car for a short drive and SES blinking seems to have gone away for now...
