Chris or others, the CK kit includes a new pump pressure regulator spring. I am comparing it to the one that is already in there (from the Art Carr kit) which is 12 coils and 2.1" long versus the CK spring which is 11 coils and 1.8" long. I'm just wondering what the pressure will do by putting in the shorter spring?
I do not want to make the pump output pressure any less than what it is now.
I currently have a Art Carr pressure regulator valve (which has flattened lands 180 deg apart on one of the lands. This is suppose to reduce the pressure pulsations. The hole in the center of the regulator is also smaller than the hole in the stock one.
Should I keep this one or change back to the stock one?

I just want to make sure that I use the best combination of parts while installing this kit. Thanks for the help.

ps What size is the snap ring that holds the pump converter valve in the pump, item 225 from the CK instruction page? I lost it.

Chris, can you be a little more specific. That answer is not really what I was looking for. I'm not sure of the spring that is in there, it is either stock or the art carr spring. But regardless it is longer & tighter than the CK spring.
So my question still stands, what does the pump pressure due with a shorter spring with slightly less tension?
Are you saying that my pressures will be higher with your (shorter) spring than the one that was in there?

I assume you know the answer unless there is much more to it than what I am thinking.

You are not going to get venders to give away there trade secrets in the trans section. All the vendors have lots of time and $$$ invested in their own calibration.

If you have another brand in the unit just get the install instructions and reverse everything it says to do. Or get another Vbody and start over. Same with the pump, separator plate and governor.

CK kit is very good use it as is.

If you have a specific question I would call CK and ask you probably will get better info than in a tech post.

As far as you wanted the best calibration, this is debateable as every builder has there own way and several have units that will live at very high HP with different calibartions.

Pump pressure is VERY important period. Good boost valve .500,.555,.570 are all different sizes. There are a few PR springs also. I use a 275 lb spring from TCI at summit.

I am not a professional just a hobbiest that has tried different things and learned from others along the way. Take my advice as that, others may have better input or even disagree. My way works for me.

Converter clutch Apply Valve Snap Ring = .036" Thick, .680" uncompressed Dia.

Spring with lower tension would = less pressure.
You would need to measure both Springs at the same lengths for accurate tension ratings.

As Chris said don't mix Kit parts.

Paul if you need to discuss spring lengths beyond my reccomendations to use kit as is you can phone in on Monday @ 631 218 1989.
