Anybody know of a computer printer that operates on black ink alone.
The Epson POS #310 printer will not print anything, black or otherwise, if any of the color cartridges are empty.
The color cartridges go empty pretty quick doing printer head & nozzle plugged checks.
So, is there any computer printer out there that will run on black only.
I need print @ copy features only. I'm running off of a Dell Lap top & windows 8.1.

Get a laser printer. You can let them sit idle for years and the toner always works. Available black only -- "monochrome" -- or color.

Gary,

I bought a cheap HP Envy for $79, then bought a remote refillable ink tank set that holds about 4oz per color. The ink kit was actually more than the printer, but considering the factory ink carts hold 10 mils, they should last a long time. When they get low, you just top them off. This printer prints even though the ink levels show zero (which they do after a predetermined number of prints). I believe there's a software "switch" that tells it to print in mono, too. I don't use mine all that much, so I wrote a scriptlet to print a test page and run it once a week in Task Manager to keep the heads clean.

The guy who runs the ink site says the best way to keep the heads from clogging is to run it full time in "best" color mode. He explains that whenever you run the "clean printheads" routine, all it does is run best color mode anyways...

X2!

I fought inkjets for years. Finally got a Laser printer and never looked back. Their price parity has dropped also.
I have had very good luck with Brother printers. Simple, reliable and the toner refills don't break the bank.

Brother laser printer, should be $99-150 and black only, cartridges are more expensive, but so are ink jets if you have to buy color and black anyways.
