Any help here??? Torque converter question

Ok if the torqe converter has a D5 on it is 2000 stall, so what does 7 mean, and what does 74 mean? I have those two on the shelf and was told they have a higher stall, but I don't want to rip a trans out and swap them for nothing. Thanks
