I might be shipping a bare block out and was curious who (if anyone) you guys have used. I have used Old Dominion truck lines, but never here in CA. Anyone suggested? Anyone I should avoid? Seems like the going rate for a 130lb block is about $300...

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I shipped a bare block to Weber Racing in Ohio using DHL...though I believe they're not doing domestic shipping anymore. I actually put it in a big ass heavy duty cardboard box with a lot of cardboard padding in between. This was actually suggested to me by Weber. I guess as long as it doesn't weigh more than 150 lbs then it can go regular ground shipping. Maybe check with fedex freight?

If you're not too comfy with the cardboard box thing then strapping it to a pallet is the way to go. I shipped a trans to Michigan using Yellow Freight for almost $300. A trans and bare block weigh almost the same so your estimates sound about right. Anyways I would recommend Yellow Freight....the 2 times I've dealt with them I had no problems.

Cool, thank you very much. I will check into that. (should have sold it local...) ;)

EDIT: Looks like FEDEX wants $500!!!! WOW

Chris at CK transmissions has a way of shipping heavy items cheaper, Spoke to him the other day about that. Mentioned about claiming it as scrap? But don't take my word for it cause I'm not sure. Call him.

go to home depot and get a heavy duty rubermaid container, it will be at 140-149 lbs for a bare block. fedex or ups costs about 80.00 to 150.00. i've done this a few times now, and only had one crushed oil pan.

My trans just did a round trip to Michigan YRC (yellow freight) weight w/pallet was 145# shipping each way was $145.
They have a terminal in Orange 57/orangewood

Do a Google search for Forward Air. You bring the article to their terminal and the person on the other end goes to the local Forward Air terminal and picks it up. I had a trans that Lonnie Diers sent me from Ohio and it cost $160 using the company that Lonnie uses. I had a trans to then ship aback to him and it was $80 with Forward Air. It is more of a hassle but you will save money.
