It has been leaking for a month now. I finally crawled up under there and it is where the aluminum meets the iron so I assumed it is the head gasket.

Took it to the beloved dealership and they want 2150.00 to fix.

I normall work on my own engines but this is a V6 stuffed up under the windshield and it looks horrible to work on. Hell, I can't even see the back of the engine from the top.

Are any of you mechanics or have you replaced the rear head gasket on a 2002 Venture van?

It almost looks like the engine has to come out or roll forward or something.

its not that bad i do a couple a month (thanks gm)

up in the air take the exhaust off from the back manfold 2 bolts

then the ac compressor to block bolts so you can get the bracket off the frt head bolts

lower it, you can move the engine fwd with a strap to get the coil and misc
off the back makes it easier

once the lower intake is off the heads will come off from the top ok

pm me if you need more help ,steve

I do several a month as well, it's not that bad. Only PITA is California emissions cars with the AIR tubes and valves in the way on the rear head, almost every single one I've done has had them. Takes a little extra time and some good snap-on swivel sockets :)

Ah....well......... I do not have a hoist so that could be problematic. :-(

I have teh $$ just hate to waste it on this...

I didn't know they were having head gasket problems. I know when I was the parts manager at an Olds dealership with the Silhouette vans (3.4L) we had plenty of intake jobs going on, but not head gaskets.

well, the dealership said it was the headgasket but they seem to say that everytime I have something wrong with a car.

It is leaking from the passenger-side of the engine and dripping down onto the engine cradle support thingy.

I looked up from under the back of the motor and it seems to be coming out from between the silver part and the black/brown part. My initial thought was the head and the block as I think it is an aluminum head/iron block setup.

It is more sweating than leaking. It forms a drip about every 15 seconds as it runs down the block.

I would love to find out it is an intake gasket.
