I need a billet input shaft for 2004r, Im on a tight budget, does anyone have them for a discounted price.

Just wondering
Thanks

Have you actually broken one?
The input shaft itself would be the last billet part i put in
out of all the billet parts

No I havnt, but I dont want to risk it.

Last one really? even before the OD ring and carrier?

Ive always thought it was other way around.

I just dont want to risk it because I ended up with a PTS xtreme billet converter, pretty pricey converter. If I toast the tranny and the converter by breaking the shaft... Thats alot of money out. But if I know the input shaft wont break, hopefully that would save the converter?

Its a 406, 475TQ, eventual plan of 250 nitrous

Nope. Otto J is right. You can find them discounted on CK's site. Thats as cheap as your ever going to see for billet parts.

The billet Forward Drum is a MUST if you dont have it.
This wil be the first part to break,It CAN take the OD ring gear with it.
But this is the order is would use
Billet forward Drum
Od Planet
OD ring gear
Input shaft.
The Input shaft will break more easily if your locking the convertor under throttle,If not the other parts IMO are more inportant in that order.

I see. I am planing on WOT locks, Probably not through shifts tho, only 3rd gear. What would you suggest I do?

The 400 should honestly make 435HP and 475TQ at my elevation. I built it for nitrous so I plan to run a NOS cheater kit for up to 250 shot. However I will only use 150-175 because thats about all my fuel system will handle.

I have all the regular HD stuff, (sun shell, rings, pump, stator, servo, band) then I have billet forward drum. I do have a late model input shaft

72 nova, 3300 LBS, 3.73 rear. PTS billet 3200 stall.

I think Ill just risk it and run what I got, I cant afford to go all billet and spend 750 more on that stuff, or even 289 for a OD carrier or shaft. Hell I still need to buy a complete built pump. It sounds to me like the billet forward drum and late model shaft and the other upgrades Ive already done mentioned above should be good into the 11s, thats good enough for me. Hopefully it will take just locking in 3rd.

I would install ring gear before planet. Dont waste money on the input without the planet. The billet input will ring the splines off of a stock OD planet with lock-up. Seen more than once.

To the Trans guys,

How often do you see broken input shafts? I have locked my 5 disc Vig in my mid to low 11 sec cars. I usually do not lock until 70+ MPH. Should I expect to break my input shaft? I only lock it at the track. Maybe 20 passes a year.

How long have you been doing that for?

Do you have any 'billet' hard parts in the tranny?

What gain to get by locking a around 70mph? a tenth or two?

That makes me feel better.

I have a billet forward drum.

I have been locking the converter for 2 seasons without any issues.

I pick up about 1.5 tenths and 3-4 MPH.

You never know. Seen stock stuff hang for years in hi 10s and then seen 13 sec car break the input. Use a billet input with stock OD planet and most of the time you will take out the OD carrier splines. I have seen that at least 25 times or more. Best on a budget is forward drum and OD ring gear for a non lock-up and all stock or all billet for the lock-up. Always forward drum at the minimum for any trans even stock type rebuild.

I personally go with what Lonnie is saying,Save your green and buy all the parts,Ya never no,it might last ,But,Which ever one you dont buy,Will break.
And with a setup like yours there is alot of off throttle grunt
especially if you spray it out of the whole.
