I just bought a Z28 (on the cheap) and the former owners were smokers. Needless to say, it reeks pretty bad. I wiped down all the hard surfaces with Clorox wipes, and vacuumed the upholstery/carpet, but, of course, it still smells. Any tricks? Thanks,

No Smoke is a product I have heard of. Saw it at the car detail place. How about a real good clean from top to bottom!!:D

Jay,

Ardex Sells an item called 'Smoke Out' it works excellent. Most car Dealership detail shop's can get it for you.

If you have an issue finding it....send me an E-mail and I will get you a bottle.

What i did In my old 87 TA...

First i took out all the seats and center console. then i hosed down the carpet with tuff stuff... cleaned that hardcore vaccuming, then hosed it down with febreeze, let it sit like that for a day with the windows open. While that was doing on I did the same with the seats... I put it all back together and gave it another febreeze hosing and vacuming and a day of drying, and it was good.

YGETV8,

All of the above suggestions are good ones but you'll find that a large portion of the smoke stench is in the headliner. You will probably need to replace it to rid yourself of any residual odor.

Talk to a detailing shop. Most likely they'll recommend you leave an ozone generator in the car for a day or two. They can work wonders!

Febreeze is a miracle spray.
Once I hit a skunk with my 73 Electra. Smell would not leave even after the windows were open for 3 days straight.
I ended up using 3 bottles of febreeze, on everything. I too wiped down everything vinyl with cleaner.
A few days later, a girlfriend commented that the car smelled good! Thats proof enough for me ;)

Working at Enterprise rent-a-car, i clean alot of smoked out cars. Spraying the glass and trim is a good start. Get a carpet/stain extractor spray and totally soak the seats and carpet w/ it. Then wipe them off thoroughly w/ a cloth. If that fails, take it to get detailed somewhere, probably $30-$75 depending:rolleyes:.

I would say so far all the info given is THUMBS UP.

A couple of nice days with windows open may help too..

I would try one of those room air purifiers after you have done all the above..

I used one of those air purifiers when I moved into my current house.. the family room had a carpet & dog.. It reeked on Humid days or when windows were closed.
I made the wife shampoo rug twice & ran the purifier for 3 days.
Smell gonzo for about a year until i put new rug down.
