I'm trying to install an autometer water temp. guage and need to eliminate one of the temp. sensors on the manifold....and no, I do not want to drill out the manifold for another sensor.

Problem: 3 sensors are there: 1 = single wire, green; 2 = single wire, green w/ yellow stripe; 3 = two wires, black & pink.

The engine is fresh and w/o coolant....so I want to eliminate the right sensor now....I hate getting coolant over everything!

...so, question is: what sensor is the one I can get by without (e.g. dummy light?). Local gm dealer was no help, anyone???

Thanks,

Mark

should be just to the left of the thermostat housing in front of the intake with a single green wire as I recall. Left when facing the engine.

I put my sensor in the spot on the pass side head where the "idiot" light sender is located.
I put a "T" fitting in the manifold where the"S" hose (bypass hose) which goes from the manifold to the water pump. I can now use a cheep 90* bend hose instead of the hard to find "S" hose - cutting off one bend of the "S" hose also works.
I put the "idiot light" sensor in the "T" fitting & now have all of the sensors hooked up.

OK....it looks like the "dummy" sensor is next to the thermo...and I like your idea Roger!

Thanks for the tips,

Mark
