HERE ARE THE STAMPS ON THE CONVERTER.
PRI, HS, 27, 9LU, 6 90 AND IT'S BLACK IN COLOR. ANY INFO ON THIS WOULD BE GREAT, LIKE SPEC'S OR MANUFACTURE. THANKS.

Doesn't ring a bell here.

If I had to guess about some of the stampings I'd say PRI identifies the manufacturer, HS means 'High Stall', 27 means '27 input splines', 9LU means 'Lock Up', and 6 90 means it was built June, 1990.

Shoulda been an archeologist. :p

OK sounds good so far. Anybody know what manufacturer uses PRI for there stamping. The 9LU I was thinking 9" lock up, the outside body is about 10" OK HS, high stall I could buy into that also. Do converter manufacturers put stall speed on them? or what aprox stall speeds are normal for 9" converters. Now is 27 splines more than a stock 200 4r. Any other archeologists out there.

The 27-spline designation would separate it from a visually identical 30-spline 1984 & later 700-R4 converter.

The actual measure of a converter refers to the turbine diameter inside the unit. That would account for the outer body being about 10". A converter that size can stall anywhere from 3000 to 5000+ depending on internal configuration and engine output.

As for stamping a stall speed on a converter, well, that isn't normally done. All these configuration parameters we're discussing are normally balled up into a manufacturer's part number which is more common to see stamped on a converter.
