After 18+ years of marrage "I guess" my wife is gonna keep me another year or two.

My question is, she has a Gold ring with DIamonds now and she saw my sister in laws new ring that is white gold.

Well now she "has to have" a white gold ring LOL

My question is..... can we re-plate hers or is it best to melt it down into a key chain for a GN and buy a new white gold ring?

LOL

I don't want cheap, but don't need to spend 10k either. Or else her favors will have to increase dramatically:cool:

Get her a new one in white gold. The ring could be Rhodium plated, but it will wear off in a few months. You can switch over her existing Diamonds into a new mount. Probably the least expensive option. I would say that 75% of the Engagement rings I make are either 19KT White Gold ( yes 19K not 18K ) or Platinum.

Thank You, what would Platinum look like? Can ya hook a brotha up?

Go for Platinum setting for the one-upmanship over white gold.:biggrin:

Or get silver for a shiny cheap alternative. ;)

You got to buy the new mount cheap azz:biggrin::tongue:

Robert does some AWESOME work!

Platinum is the ultimate material for an Engagement set and it's what I use on most of my high end pieces. There is plenty of good articles and reference materials out there on it. As I referred to earlier, I also fabricate in 19KTW, which is very close in appearance to Platinum at almost half the cost. Modern smelting and available alloys mimick Platinum's color very well. The difference between 18KTW and 19KTW is the color. I find 18KTW in itself to be slightly yellow in comparison. The difference between 19KTW and Platinum is the cost and durability. A 14KT Bright White is also available.

don't have it dipped or recoated in white gold

it'll only wear off within a certain amount of time. if you know what style she likes just about any jeweler can make it for you and some are good enough to do it from just a pic. they make a cast then fill it with your choice. of course platinum is the best and most expensive but white gold is pretty close. only real differrance that you can tell if you know your jewelry is by the weight when you have it in your hand and not on a scale. color wise they look pretty close. wldwst would know the most since he's a jeweler but you can always mount her current diamonds in another setting. To answer your ? if anybody is into jewelry the answer is yes sir, i believe gold will hold it's value if and when the economy fails ( hope it doesn't ) i have ALOT of jewelry. mainly watches but my wife is also, has enough jewelry to fill a jewelry case in a jewelry store. believe me when i say it buy gold it'll hold it's value and only went up when oil went up a few yrs back. just to prove my point i bought my necklace and pendant i wear daily for 375 back in 1999 and it's worth about 2K now, 14 KT solid and it weighs over 2 ounces. talk about a good buy back then and it only appreciated. Back to your ? you have alot of options and the one thing that irks me is when your wife compares hers to a family member or someone comes around showing what new piece they have. i know i shouldn't boast about it but just throwing my 02 cents in.

All good points, she is the best woman I could ever ask for so.... Shane you gonna loan me some money?
