I just bought an 86 GN in pretty decent condition for $4000 : )
the turbo appears like it may be different than stock.

Does anyone know how I can tell what it is?

thanks

definately a TE series turbo. not stock. measure compressor wheel and if its 58 mm its a 44. very good turbo. cousin to 49 but flows a bit more. how does it spool? what converter do you got?

It should be here friday, I just got excited when I realized looking at the pic ..."that looks must be a fuel pressure gauge and that turbo dosen't look stock" and wanted someone elses opinion.

thanks for the replys

Odds are, it's a TE-44. If you have some extra money laying arround, I highly suggest a 2800 stall convertor. Some people say the stock D5 will work, but my new convertor made a world of difference in spoolup.

Not to question the experts, but...
That looks like a Garret .63 compressor housing. Couldn't it be a TE-61, 62 or 63 as well??? Guess the only sure way to tell is to measure the turbine.

It cost about $400. I've heard it was a pretty good price for a 9?11 stall convertor. Got mine from Bowler Transmissions.
