I'm going on my 35th hour of being awake. No sleep whatsoever. And no, I've never done any drugs, I even gave up drinking 7 months ago. I couldn't sleep last night and ~5:30AM I decided I would be better off staying awake. Now it's 9:30PM and I'm wide awake even after taking sleeping pills. I've tried everything from working out to listening to classical music. I'm finally starting to get tired of the internet lol. If tonight goes like last night I might even finish porting my heads finally. Any suggestions? It's getting boring.

Weird. You should be a Navy SEAL...their first week of training is sleepless. You might wanna see a doctor, it can't be heathy.

Go to the drug store and buy some Malletonine(not sure of spelling).Take two and shut the lights off.(Read the directions)It should work!I only sleep 4 to 5 hours a night for the past 4 years.
If that doesn't work watch the most lame azz move you can find!
Works for me! Hope that helps.

I know what you mean. I go through spells where I can't get to sleep for anything, and I'm pretty much always up late. Over the counter pills don't really work, IMO. Best thing is to get comfortable and try reading. If you start working on something you'll get wrapped up in it and stay up. Computer screens are stimulating and will keep you up too, which may explain why you're getting replies to this so late? Hmm...

Do you get adequate excercise during the day? This can make a difference on sleep patterns. If not, start an excercise program. I try to run 2 to 3 miles a day and do 250-500 push-ups. At least go walk for 30 minutes. Hope this helps.

I'm no doctor but sleeplessness can be a physical condition or a psychological condition. For myself, there have been periods of my life where I was unable to sleep for different reasons: job stress, busy agenda, or just alot on my mind. I tried to break any bad habits concerning sleep that I had and it has helped. The psychological method is the best way to try to fix things first; dependency on sleep aids like pills is a route to addiction. Not good.

Number one and the most important (for me): the bed is for sleeping. Yeah, you can fool around with your wife/girlfriend too but don't watch TV or read entire books there. Trying to sleep with the TV on is bad too. It may put some folks to sleep but subconsciously, you're still involved all night long. I don't rest as well and still feel tired in the morning.

Number two: Establish a consistent sleep habit. If you feel tired at any point in the evening, it's not a bad thing to just go ahead and go to bed. Fighting sleep is another form of sleep deprivation. I've knocked out at 7:30pm and slept until morning plenty of times. Just give your body what it wants.

Number three: Plan your time better. Make time for projects/family/work. Decide when to turn each of those on and when to turn each of those off. If you're spinning in a circle trying to get more done than you have alloted time for, then you'll always feel frustrated and try to force results. Realize that sleep is something you have to plan for too. If you don't allot time for sleep, then the other stuff is going to suffer because of that. Sure, there will be exceptions but don't let them become rules. If you have kids, then God help you; I have no experience with that situation.

Hope this helps.

going to the Nats? I didnt get much sleep last night thinking of all the things i need to get done before i leave

I sleep about 3-4 hours a night...no matter what. Like these guys said if you feel tired go to sleep. Also if your mind is racing about things that need to be done, get up make a list and go back to bed. This helps put your mind at ease. Also if you lay there for more than 15 minutes you begin to fight yourself for sleep. If you don't nod off in 15 minutes get up and read the dictionary. Hope it helps.

GO & do some really different exersice.. Like mow all the lawns in the neighboorhood. That should make you tiered J/Kidding

I have the same thing that happens in cycles every 2 weeks then I get back on track. I have found not just golf on TV but just about anything will put me to sleep..

Do you drink coffee???

Wow, that's some great advice John.
That list that Whit was talking about helps a lot. Usually I'm thinking about work, planning, worried I'll forget something that *has* to be done first thing etc. I usually go email myself a note to my work email as a reminder, really does help. The exercise thing is a bigge. Desk jobs will kill you in many slow ways!

As already stated, reliance on sleep aids can lead to a dependance. However, there's been a prescription non-addictive sleeping pill on the market now for the past few years called Ambien. It works very well. You may want to consult your physician since you're in a fairly advanced stage of sleep deprivation.
