Anyone experience this with their hood?

I was testing spark on my car last weekend and determined I need an ignition module. As I was cleaning up the hood closed on its own harder than I would have close it. Since I had to order the part, no big deal. Today I went to install the module and the hood would not open. I could feel tension on the cable with the hood release in the car, however, it would not pull to open the hood. I went under the car and the larger spring from the hood was laying on the ground. I am assuming the harder close broke the latch. What do I need to do to get the hood open and repair. Never had anything like this before. Thanks for the help

does the cable pull at all?

if it does you might be able to have someone hold the lever back while you gently pry the hood up

I will try that tomorrow. I was alone today but yes the cable does pull, you can feel tension. Thanks for that

if the spring came off,your gonna need a hand to open. one person pull cable,and other one try and pull up on hood. you may need a plastic wedge and a soft rag to help get hood up without damaging the paint

i'd suggest not prying against the header panel- the fiberglass isn't made for that..

crawl under the car and see if you can use a 3 foot or so long board to gently push up on the bottom of the hood while someone else pulls the cable.. then once the latch releases, have that guy run out and open the hood..
put the spring back where it belongs, set the hood down (but don't latch it), and go buy a new pair of hood support struts.. they are something like $15 a piece and will keep you from having to worry about the hood coming down on your head while you are doing something on the engine (which sucks, by the way).

The hood latch goes down into a hole when the hood is closed. You might be able to reach it underneath the car with a long pry bar or flat head and move it out toward the passangerside while someone trys and lift the hood. then get a 2x4 to hold the hood open until you get some new shocks. Not so bad of an issue try locking your TOOL BOX in the trunk and having the pin that goes into the trunk lock fall out when the trunk is closed making the key useless. Now thats fun!!

Had this happen on a fiberglass hood, spring fell out, luckily had someone to help, some friendly advice...
once your pushing up on hood, have buddy pull lever and then release.... for whatever reason when he was pulling lever first it would not release hood no matter how hard i pushed....

On mine I carefully used tool you use to pull the headlight spring into place to lift up on the bottom edge of the hood it has like a t handle with a hook on the end worked great just an option
