I don't think its a GNX... missing too many of the GNXish parts, and I don't know anyone in the right mind that would screw a GNX up like that.
Anyone familar with this accident?

Didn't that just happen at the BPG event? Heard about the guy doing a burnout on the return road without a helmet or belts on.
That is Jim Rock's Grand National. The X is part of the GNXtreme on the side meaning extreme Grand National. I wasn't there but from what I've read he had an accident at the BPG Nat's on the return road. I'm sorry he wrecked his car but he's supposed to be alright which is what counts.
That's no 'accident' in my view. An accident is when something happens that is reasonably out of your control. Wiping out while doing a burnout on the return road which is NOT allowed, is just being an idiot. And especially to stay in it like he did, without a belt or helmet (if true), is even more insane.
While I certainly hope he's ok, doing a burnout like that on the return road (or anywhere for that matter) with the kind of power that car makes is just plain stupid.
Sorry to see that he hit a tree but what if he had wiped out some other racer or some bystanders?
He's a fool for doing that in that environment. Too bad about the car but he got what he 'paid for'. Maybe he'll know better the next time.

Ok, since you were there, perhaps you can tell us why he pulled such a stupid stunt? You have seen the pics haven't you that showed he was on the throttle all the way out of the grass? Perhaps you can justify this? By all means, go right ahead. I can guarantee you - if he had injured someone or damaged/destroyed some property by what he did, any jury would hang him by his gonads if the ONLY evidence they had was that one picture showing the tire tracks.
Oh, and in case you may try the "My throttle stuck" argument, it would not have stuck WIDE OPEN if it didn't get mashed to the floor at some time or other. Guilty of negligence and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle for sure.
He definitely screwed up big time on that one.

You're partially right - he's not an 'ass'. Actually, no one here called him anything or any sort of name. I said that what he did was stupid and idiotic. So, no, I never called him an 'ass'. But he didn't just 'make a bad call'. A bad call would have been just deciding to even do such a lamebrain stunt on the return road. When he actually followed through with that stupid plan, it became much more than a 'bad call'. It became dangerous, stupid and just plain over the top.
Guys who do crap like that on the return road, in the pit area, on the street or in a parking lot, just to show off or say 'Look at me! I've got a powerful car!" are not what we need at events like that. Those kind of stupid moves are liabilities. You do stuff like that on the track, where it's at least got some measure of control and safety, not on the return road or anywhere else for that matter.

If I was going to go to an event where every car owner/driver would possibly be pulling stupid sh!t like what he did may be, then I wouldn't even bother going.
Our sport and hobby does not need more black eyes from anyone who thinks it's ok to rip off a 100' burnout on the return road and endanger not only himself, but those around him. That includes me and that certainly includes you. Hopefully, he and anyone else contemplating a similar act will think about it before doing it the next time tempation tries to get them to act like a fool.
Perhaps if it weren't for idiotic acts like the burnout/wreck, more people would attend these events. Ever think of that???? Who in the hell wants to go see this kind of crap performed by unsafe drivers? Not me.
Why do YOU think most don't show up at these 'events'? There's got to be a wide variety of reasons but part of it has to be with concern over the cost and risk of being there and racing. Especially when someone with a macho complex decides to rip off a smoky burnout just any where he damn well pleases.
Remember - I'm not saying Jim is stupid or an ass or anything other than a decent person. I don't even know the guy and if he's got some injuries to heal up, by all means I wish him a speedy and comfortable recovery.

I was there. I was at the event, not the incident though. He was trying to sort out his car from what I understand. The track was not running any cars, the car show was still going on, so all of the staging lanes were full of cars not moving. Nothing was going down the track. What he did wasn't the smartest thing, but he did it when noone else was around. He put noone at risk but himself. He was trying to iron out some problems, and with noone there, he probably figured he'd just give it a shot and see if his fixes worked. Well, that's when it got away from him. And, he wasn't just doing a burnout for the hell of it, he was testing his launch, not showing off. I'm sure if he could do it over again, he wouldn't do it. It's too bad about the car, and I'm glad that he is going to be ok.

That's all good, but there are reasons the return road is the return road and the track is the track. The track is prepped for even traction, has no debris, it's flat long and wide. The return road is not prepped, it's bumpy, hilly, narrow and lined with grass and trees. It was poor judgement, and he paid. Doesn't make him an awful person.
