Got a block and head number here... wanting to know what they can tell me

Engine.... Front 0235256YC Back Right 500557

HEads AO86 6X

I was told this was a 75-76 400 with 6X heads worth some 220HP

There were lots of YC blocks. Where is the 0235256YC stamped: above the water pump hole or down by the timing chain cover? Above the WP hole is '66 and older. How many freeze plugs on each side of the block? 2 plugs are '66 and older. How many motor mount holes? 2 holes are '69 and older. There are several blocks that used the YC code so you have to check alot of stuff to know. Pontiac only had one block as I'm sure you're aware, just different bores. There is no "big-block".

The 6X heads are low-compression. Found on both 350s and 400s '76 - '77.

Well, All he told me was that it was pulled from a wrecked 78 'Bird, but he was positive it wasn't the original motor.
Now, its just setting around because some gas got into the oill and hurt the bearings. HE already has a 'Bird with a 400 in it and doesnt feel like starting another projects and its in his way. So he wants to trade me The 400 with the heads, water pump, Eldelbrock Intake and distributor with a Tired Turbo 350 Tranny with the BOP housing for my Fernandez Vertigo X Guitar with an Ibenez Distortion Pedal and a 8W Studio Amp. I guess, All told I am going to be givig what I fell is worth about $200 bucks and gas money for a 4 hour drive for it.

A 400 poncho will normally have "400" stamped into the block itself..

HTH..
