Has anyone ever had a Walbro 340 fuel pump kind of crap out on them? Mine is practically brand new, less than 1000 miles on it, and it's just about dead. When I installed the Walbro, it whined significantly louder than the stock pump, probably twice as loud or so. The whine has gotten progressively louder and now can be heard inside the car at freeway speeds. The engine has started to starve for fuel at anything over 10 PSI.

I checked my fuel pressure, it's 38 with the line off, which is pretty much where it should be for a stock car like mine. My fuel pressure gauge won't reach the windshield, so I can't go for a ride and see what the pressure does when I give it some boost, but I am almost positive that the engine is starving for fuel. Today it got so bad that I didn't think I was going to make it home. Anything more than about 5% throttle and the engine would stutter, stumble, and try to shut off; and now the fuel pump is louder than it's ever been.

I checked the voltage on my hotwire kit, I've got 13.9 V at the pump, so I don't think it's a wiring problem.

I guess it's possible I just got a bad pump, but I'd like to hear from some people who are little more knowledgeable than I am about it. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

got to make sure you have a true walbro pump. i got one of the first ones made way back in the day and its still in the car running strong. has to be around 7-8 years now.

it sounds to me that ur pump was bad to start off with, unless it was a knock off or something like noted before. my walbro 340 was quieter than my stock pump in my opinion. got mine from full throttle i believe.

If it is run dry for some time it will probably hurt the pump.

Mechanical stuff fails - nothing is perfect but it would make me wonder if I got a China counterfeit pump - HOW DO WE KNOW?

especially if u have the pump hotwired because the fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool and lubed. i dont know about the knock offs, probably if u can find a part # on the, but other than that i dont know

I am sure they do a good job making it look right...

Just read about some counterfeit rifle scopes from China - they mentioned a way to tell the difference. Something about the firm's logo/seal or something.
