I just got stationed up here in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and I am wondering if there are any board members in the area.
Is there anything to do around here?

Damn dude, you're like half an hour from Epping (New England Dragway). LUCKY!! I'm up the coast a little bit, in Bath ME, working at BIW keepin' our nation safe with overpriced warships :p I know there are a few people down in NH, but all the towns run together for me.

If you're lookin' for nightlife and whatnot, Old Orchard Beach probably isn't more than an hour from you, just up past Kittery and Saco. You like girlie scenery, that's a GREAT place to go. Also Salisbury Beach in Mass is pretty sweet. They usually have a carnival going on, and the best strip clubs I've ever been to in the USA (nothin can compete with Montreal).

You're close to Mt. Washington in a relative sense, that's a blast to climb. If you're into kayaking or canoing, hell, youre on the coast, I'm sure you'll figure it out. It's a pretty sweet area, you're equally close to Boston and Portland Maine (Boston JR.) so there's definitely stuff to do. I plan to hit NED sometime soon, hopefully you'll be able to check it out.

Take care and good luck in the new digs!

Thanks for the reply, dude. I just got the heads up on New England Dragway the day after I posted this. Sounds like quite a place. Any *cough* street racing *cough* around here?

Thanks for all the tips on things to do, my boat pulls out of here in a year, and I like to do all that I can while I am in an area.

I completly agree about Montreal. I was in Upstate NY for six months, and we had quite a few trips north of the border. The 18 drinking age helped too (Count down to 21..... 5 months, 15 Days).

Again, thanks for the reply.

Enjoy the area.. It is ok about 6 months of the year the rest BITE.
You can always POP down to BEANTOWN for some fun.

NH has a little of everything.

Maine I am not so sure I do think the pace of life in maine is a tad slower than Mass or Southern NH..

Knock yourself out at NED.

*Cough* *cough* Sanford Maine *cough* ;)

Haven't checked out the street-scene there yet, but a buddy of mine with a fast Camaro says he gets to play down there a lot. Some cool folks, but a LOT of prey if you know what I'm sayin'

Of course if we both roll up out of the blue, newbies in TRs, trying to play dumb, we probably won't get to take too much lunch money. I'll be talking to my friend pretty soon here, we're trying to get together at the Oxford dragway. I wanna run my car there (closer, 1/8th mile, easier to get a lift home if I bust something). But after that, I'll definitely hit up Epping. I'll ask him about the haps in Sanford. I'm not a big street racer (too old and timid for that kinda stuff for the most part), but I've heard there are some pretty sweet industrial parks and the like in the area. If you do get an "in" and check it out, definitely let us know how it goes!

And Steve's right, the pace in Maine is definitely SLOW, especially now that tourist season is in full bloom. If you like driving 10-15 under on 2-lane highways, it's the place to BE!! I deal with it though, if it wasn't for the crappy winter, everybody would wanna live here.

Good luck and I'll let you know what I find out about the Sanford scene, and hopefully we'll be able to hit up NED!

Sanford, eh? Sounds like my kind of place. I miss that sort of deliquency. Hehehe. Everything that you have heard about Detroit is true. Yes, we do sell Turbo Blue on the street, all over the place. The cops just look the other way. The whole industrial park thing sounds kinda 2 Rice 2 Ridiculous to me, never been into that scene, but then again, I never minded taking High School sophomore's money in Dad's Accord, either.

I am noticing that things are slow though, nice area. My fiancee is coming up here in about two weeks, so I am looking for things to do while she is here, and this state is beautiful.

I think that I can deal with another crappy winter, Upstate NY was no picnic. 4 FEET of snow on Xmas. Who are they kidding?

Do you guys ever meet up up here, this NED is sounding like a sweetplace. I was reading the rules, does anyone understand if they would let me use my electric exhaust cutout, or TurboLink? It sounds like a grey area.

I don't race much at NED but i think you can get by with the cutout. I did notice the starter come over to my car & look in the passengerside area. I think he was looking to see if I had a laptop.

You might want to shoot GRUMPY on the board an email & ask him as he races up there.

There seems to be a growing number of Turbo Buicks in the southern NH area lately. We have noticed several new cars in the area at cruise nights and on this board. It would be fun to have a whole crowd of us to show up at NED.

The way I understand the laptop thing, is that for being in "competition" as they refer to it, they don't want something that actually controls your car and lets it run your dialin like every time. I've run Direct Scan there a few times, and not had a problem. Of course I have so much junk in the car when I run for some reason, I'm sure they'd just not notice the laptop in the clutter. I saw a fast DSM there that had TWO laptops in it, and they let him run no problem. If questioned, I'd just say it's a data logger. If they don't let that fly, close the top and say "okay, it's off" just to reopen it when your'e staged. :p
As for the cutout, I'm sure you'd be fine. There are some LOUD "street" cars there on Weds and Fris. Full-cage cars on MT Streets and sound like they're running open headers. I'm sure the little TR would get by alright
I would definitely be up for meeting sometime, but I've gotta get the bugs worked out at Oxford first. Let me know fellow NewEnglanders.
