So this - http://www.tiresplus.com/shop-for-tires/tire-buying-guide/tire-load-index-chart/ says 2 conflicting things. 1. It says that the load index of a tire x 4 should be more than the weight of the vehicle. Being our cars weigh about 3800 on the heavy end divided by 4 = 950. So we should be able to use an index of about 79 or higher. But then...

2. It says you should never use less than the factory tire rating...which in our case is 95, which should support up to a 6,084 lb vehicle.

So which is true?

By federal law, the rating that is on the vehicle is supposed to be what you're required to go with, but that doesn't mean you can't put a lighter duty tire on. In other words, if you're got a truck that requires a tire with an LT rating because of it's capacity, then you have to put tires with an LT rating on it. On cars it's not as important, but if something happens because of a tire failure, then you can be held liable for any damage to someone or their property.

and i don't think slicks are load rated are they? racing or performance mods voids all kinds of other legal nicities.
