A google search of the general description didn't net me anything.

I'm wondering if they still make them. With all the battery operated ride-on toys making kids fat (I'm guilty of having a couple for my kids) I was thinking about the coolest ride-on toy from when I was young (probably mid-late 70s). It was this thing you'd sit in. It had a huge wheel on each side that you would operate with each arm like a crank. You could crank the wheels in opposite directions and get it spinning around. I think the wheels had a spiral like design on them.

I don't remember who made it or what it was called. Anyone remember anything like that?

Thanks,
Jim

Green Machine?

I remember them but don't remember the name. They were circular and had 2 big wheels with cranks on them and in the middle of the front and back were small wheels that could spin like shopping cart wheel.

It was the green machine all right, and I had one. I rode that thing into the ground, I never really realized how cool it was. My neighbour, I remember had a dukes of hazzard big wheel and I was jealous of his hehe.

But that thing was cool, and it did spin right out unlike the hand brake ones they came out with later. Not sure if kids today would take to it.

I think what he is looking for only has two big wheels and one axle. You actually sit balanced between the two wheels and roll them via handles. Kind of like a wheel chair without the casters in the front. Am I right Jim?

Stop posting about the freaking green machine ,,that is not what he is looking for .... :p

That's it!!

I remember that being a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't been getting notification so I didn't realize people had replied. The green machine is cool, but not quite what I had in mind.

I'll have to see if I can find one. If not I'll have to make one.

Thanks! Just bought one. It got a bad review on Amazon because the reviewer claims it falls apart at the hubs, but he might be putting a big kid on it. I plan to give it to my 2-year old and 5-year old. My 5-year old is on the top of the recommended age range, but he's a bit on the small side so I doubt he'll be big enough to break it. The review did say that they're 'wicked fun....".

I had one as a kid too! I used to spin it till I almost barfed! Ah the joys of childhood:) It was a fun toy,. I used it so much I wore out the plastic wheels .. lol

I rode my Big Wheel down our 30º driveway into the street, and yanked the handbrake at the bottom....doing 360's out into the middle of the road. :D

HA Same here, PRONTO Stole one out of a kids yard in 6th grade as we went home the same way & we both took turns going down a huge hill doing 360's.. That was our first time we met each other. It figures it was a Car type thing LOL!

When my Brother had his Krazy Car we would bash him with our Sting rays.
I popped a wheelie on his head.

That explains some folks' propensity for doing parking lot donuts in musclecars.

Well, we brought it back when we were done
