Went by the body shop today and snapped a few in progress photos of my car. They've got about 3/4 of the body primed. The hood, decklid, and roof were so bad they had to take those parts all the way down to bare metal. With all the primer it looks like quite the ghetto sled right now. ;) Good thing TRs have a big truck because it would appear that's where half of the car is currently residing! When you get to my photo album, click on the "body shop" album. Pardon me, but I think I need a stiff drink after seeing these photos again.

As far as the paint goes, the sides of the car were in decent shape, no checking or cracking. I'm not a paint expert but I've always heard that the factory paint provides a great point of adhesion for new paint as long as the factory paint is in decent shape. Maybe some paint and body experts can chime in and help on this one?

Joe, thanks for the quick shipping on the moldings. I got the confirmation email with tracking number. Much appreciated.

Man I am with you!

My car went into the shop last September for a complete strip down to metal....

Last couple of weeks were supposed to be "the week" that it comes home! Supposedly it will be this coming wed/th.

The thing that helps me keep my sanity is that it looks friggin AWESOME!! :D :D

I snapped some "in progress" pics along the way for documentation!

Enjoy!

"tis true - factory paint is the best "primer"
Just be sure they used a sealer over the stock laquer...it'll avoid compatability problems (I'm sure they will...it's common practice)

only problem with doing that is with the crackleing, even if you sand it down smooth its actully going to work its way through the new paint job and ruin it. about the only thing you can do in that case is have the car striped.

red roof???

Yes I'm going with a two-tone, rust red roof with the rest being black. LOL :D :D Actually the red is just a primer coat. Don't worry it will be all black when done. :)

Thanks Zam70 for the info.
