Where can I purchase the real Art Carr "N" stall. What stall does this usually provide on a mid 10 second full weight car, and is it tight on the top end? I need to get a big turbo spooled quick but also have a small cam and can not over rev on the big end.

Deciding between this and the 9x11 (or 10x12).

if you have a mid 10 sec car, do not even consider the 9/11....I am not sure anyone has had success with that converter at those power levels at the race track (I sure didn't)

with the "N" stall you will need to be able to handle 6-6500 rpm in third gear depending on how fast you are going....6000 yields 129 on my car with 28X9 slicks (27" tire)

I have a 206/206 Weber Roller cam on a 109 block, steel caps, JE pistons etc. with Ported big valve iron heads. 6500 would be quite a push.

you are not gonna be a mid 10 sec car at less than 6000 rpm......a 206 should handle that if the springs are good....where do you shift?

The springs are matched to the cam from Weber. I don't have any runs on this new combo, I just got it back together.
What do you think?

I plan to run the GT70 P trim .85 from Limit Eng.
2004R with transbrake

I have the same turbo with GN1 heads and 224/224 roller....my car runs 10.4's at 130 I shift at 6-6200 (what is that yellow lite??)

It wil rev much higher and I may try that some day (I do have all forged internals.....)

you should be able to pull 6000 easily...you can prolly get away with a tighter converter than the "N" stall.....I got it when I had the GTQ70......if you are gonna shift around 5500, get a Precision lock up (multi disk) and lock it at the top of 3rd gear (3600 stall should work)......just keep an eye on the thrust bearing.......( a purty good argument for non lock converters at this power level)

I was thinking non lock-up for that reason and the fact that it was lighter and easier on the trans. I'll check with Art Carr and see what stall is one step below the "N". Maybe 3500.
Thanks for the advice.

on how much boost if I may ask?
I am having Red at EVTB's add GN1's with pedastal mounted RR's and a 224/224 roller cam to my new eng build hes doing for me.....

sorry, not trying to hijack the thread

25 tops...all it'll do (heads are ported purty good....)

BTW, my cam is a solid roller (1.65 rockers)

130 MPH WITH 23/24 POUNDS OF BOOST

 Way back in 2000,
109 block, stock rods, stock crank, .030 JE pistons, stock rear, 70 P-trim with .85 housing, GN1 heads, AC 9" 16930 converter, OEM computer with an ME-chip (24*), 83 lb. injectors, and a 4 pound launch on the foot brake with 23 lbs. most of the way down the 1/4, 24# right in the lights, and I use a 224/224 hyd. roller and the trans would shift on it's own around 5600 rpm. 1.53 60 ft. on that trip but car has been 1.49 on the same 4 pound launch. :)

I have a N stall that was way too loose for my GT70 ptrim. I have the PTE .63 exhaust housing (as far as I know). Spooled great, but car was running 5800+ rpms thru the traps @ 123 - 124 mph, which is too high for that mph.

I am having it stalled lower now. We'll see how ti goes. I have a loaner convertor in there right now that was made for a TE45A and it spools well and pulls real hard. So far I'm quite happy with this one. I stalled it to 3200 @ 5 psi and 3600 - 3700 @ 10 psi.

Well see in a week or so how it does at the track.

the loaner converter came from a great shop in las vegas!! just kidding.

Loaner did happen to come from some shop in LV ;)

It's an older Art Carr 9" 16930 that I guess was in the 3200-3400 range for a TE45A. We don't know much more about it, but we're gonna find out in about 10 days how it works.

I'm pretty excited since on the test runs the car pulled really hard. and I was only running 18-19 psi. i can't wait to get it to the track and run the TSM legal boost of 24psi ;) :D

Clayton,
Any word on which Art Carr converter is below the "N" code? Like in the neighborhood of 3400 - 3500?

scott--i think clayton is out of town for a week. if everything works out. ill get the converter he has back next month in woodburn. we could try it in your car if you didnt get one by then.
